BOMBERS-ARGOS TRADE
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has acquired international defensive lineman Thaddeus Gibson from the Toronto Argonauts, in exchange for international defensive back Alex Suber.
Gibson (6-2, 243, Ohio State, October 21, 1987 in Euclid, OH) signed with the Argos in May of this season. He has played in five games with Toronto this season, started three, and recorded six tackles, one sack and one interception.
“Thaddeus has professional football experience on both sides of the border, has shown great promise when he’s had opportunities to get in the lineup, and will add depth to our defensive line immediately,” said Bombers General Manager Kyle Walters.
Gibson was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 4th round (116th overall) in the 2010 NFL Draft, and spent four years in the NFL. He played for the San Francisco 49ers, where he totalled three tackles in two games, and also spent time with the Houston Texans, Chicago Bears, Tennessee Titans, and was most recently a member of the Dallas Cowboys. Prior to his time in the NFL, Gibson played three seasons for the Ohio State Buckeyes, where he tallied 82 combined tackles, 25 tackles for loss and 10 quarterback sacks.
Suber originally joined the Bombers in 2010, however has not dressed for a game this season.
“Alex has been a consummate professional for this franchise for nearly five seasons. We thank him for everything he has done for this organization both on and off the field, and wish him the best in Toronto,” Walters said.
