BOMBERS NAME HALL D.C. **WITH QUOTES

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are pleased to announce the appointment of long-time CFL coach Richie Hall as the club’s Defensive Coordinator.

Hall comes to Winnipeg after holding the same position with the Saskatchewan Roughriders for the last four seasons. He has more than twenty years of CFL coaching experience, including 12 as a defensive coordinator, and two as a head coach.
“Richie Hall has been around our game for almost three decades,” said Head Coach Mike O’Shea. “He knows the league, he understands opposition offences, and how to adjust when needed. He’s highly respected, and brings another winning element to our organization. Acquiring him to lead our defence is major coup for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.”
A three-time Grey Cup Champion (two as a Defensive Coordinator), Hall has a reputation of fielding one of the league’s top defences season after season. He coached the league’s number one ranked defence in 2013, posting a league low 398 points allowed, while leading the league with 24 interceptions, and the lowest touchdowns allowed total with 36. All of this culminated in the Riders winning the 101st Grey Cup in dominating fashion.
“This is an amazing opportunity for me as a coach and as a person,” said Hall. “For years, I have been in this league and watched from afar the passion the city and province have for the Blue Bombers. They really deserve to have a winning football team and all of us on the defensive side of the ball will do everything we can to make that happen.”
Before his extensive coaching career began, Hall spent nine years as a defensive back in the CFL with Calgary and Saskatchewan. While with the Riders, he was a key member in the club winning the 1989 Grey Cup. He was also named a division all-star four times.

** Richie spoke to the media on a conference call on Tuesday and here are some of his quotes regarding going up against the Roughriders:

“I think it’s going to be strange but at the same time you have to understand that’s football.  You become committed to the jersey that you put on.  I was gone for a short time (2009-2010) when I went to Edmonton and initially it was an adjustment just because you become accustomed to going to Taylor Field in my case but now I’m going to a different stadium, I’m living in a different province, and I’m wearing different colours.”

“But that’s life.  That’s life as a coach and a pro athlete.  It’s no different as a player — I started off as a player with the Calgary Stampeders and then I went to Saskatchewan.  It’s gonna be different, it’s gonna be an adjustment, but at the same time I’m excited for the new opportunity.”

“I’m looking forward to it.  (The Riders) are just another team.  The whole thing is you just have to be able to adjust.  Whether it’s the Roughriders, the Eskimos, the Argos, those are the teams you have to defeat.  There’s some things I’m familiar with them and there are some things they’re familiar with with me.  But it’s all about football, going out there and putting a game plan together and letting the players go out there and play.  It’s a players’ game.  Our job as coaches is to put them in situations to be successful.  The bottom line is they make plays.  I’m just looking forward to our team, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, going out there and being successful.”

A change is as good as a rest by Pa used to say. All the best to Richie in that fine town of Winnipeg. Great food at the Forks.

Anyone else out there starting to feel a bit ripped off by the weather this January? One week of cold weather. Whats with that? Us folk in Sask are all going to get soft. Could that be it for the -30 temps this winter? Something ain't right.

Larry my friend, the warm weather we are enjoying has its positives compared to that of an old-fashioned prairie January: lower heating bills lower electricity bills by not having to plug in the vehicle. more outdoor activity by the younguns. easier on those with asthma. less heart attacks when shoveling. I also think about how in ten to twenty years us older folk can tell the young how January used to be the coldest month and how we would never be able to wear our shorts and t-shirts outside like they are able to, and how we did not have… Read more »

I'll beat the Rider Store tomorrow stocking up on Green. About three years ago after one of those games the Riders had won until Richie's prevent defense lost it for us I swore off buying anymore until Richie was gone.

Hi,

1) Richie Hall is pure class and he'll do well.

2) Good weather means lower heating costs, and that helps all the worker's in this Province currently getting laid off – starting with the Oil Patch guys, and now the 80 that were cut at ISM.

….Good times they are a rollin' here ain't they?

Hi,

1) Brad Wall is pure class and he'll do well.

2) Good weather means more pot holes, and that helps all the worker's in this Province currently working on our roads.

… Let the Good Times roll as that great band the Cars use to sing.
