BOMBERS RELEASE TWO VETS

Denmark

WINNIPEG – The Winnipeg Blue Bombers released veteran American players Bryant Turner and Clarence Denmark on Tuesday.

Turner, a defensive tackle, and Denmark, a receiver, both originally signed with Winnipeg in 2011.

“These are the types of difficult decisions that must be made throughout the off-season,” Blue Bombers general manager Kyle Walters said in a statement. “Both Bryant and Clarence have done great things for this organization both on and off the field for a long time now.

“The Winnipeg Blue Bombers sincerely thank both men for the dedication, hard work, and effort they put forth. We wish them the very best moving forward.”

The six-foot-two 279-pound Turner had 89 tackles, 26 sacks and four forced fumbles during his tenure with Winnipeg. He had a career-high 20 tackles in 2012, then followed that up by registering a career-best seven sacks in 2013.

Turner recorded 17 tackles and four sacks in 10 games with Winnipeg last season.

The Bombers front office got far too excited and blew their wad in Free Agency. Now they have to make up for all that excitement in the heat of the moment. They need to dump salary so they can stay under the cap. 1st they will learn they paid way to much for Canadian D-Tackle Shologan. He's past his best before date and that's why SK didn't protect him and Ottawa let him go to free agency. Then they will realize that as much as they have improved their offence. It's still not enough to be anywhere near a championship… Read more »

The Bombers have been trying to get rid of Turner for a season and a half.

Denmark could actually be a really good fit with Riders. They are still missing one receiver for a complete package. Maybe Denmark and Price fight for fifth spot.

I think the Riders int problems of last season had more to do with QB's Sunseri and Doege than receivers Dressler and Smith.

Pre 2013 if you look at Darian's TD VS INT ratio. He was one of the highest out of all the starting QB's. Dressler and Smith are very good receivers. They can catch the ball well. However smaller receivers in tight coverage often lose the ball to the defender, Dressler was great at finding the open spots on zone coverage. Smith was learning from Dress as well.If you look at the NFL now. They are going with taller receivers and smaller RB's. It would seem as though Jones has taken the same approach and Winnipeg is just buying up as… Read more »

I would imagine Denmark has sensed this ever since the Bombers signed Dressler and Smith. But, I'm not sure that having a training camp without competition is a good idea.

So if the NFL is going with taller receivers and smaller RB's, and Jones has taken the same approach, then doesn't that mean there are less quality players of that ilk for Jones to sign. Sounds like a dumb move to make.

The logic of this the above comment is superb, perhaps even flawless.

He is exactly right. There are not thousands of players like this being produced by the American football machine every year.

What did you say? There are over 15000 football players who complete their NCAA eligibility every season?

Oh. OK then. Let evaluate things again.

Wow, now it looks like that guy didn't have a clue what he was talking about. Now his logic and opinion appear to be totally worthless.

Opinions are like a$$holes, we always end up seeing the stupid ones.

And I spelled 'honour' correctly, unlike how it is spelled some places.
