BRAEDEN MOSKOWY COMING HOME

27-year old Regina curler Braeden Moskowy broke the big news that local curling fans have been waiting for on 620 CKRM’s SportsCage on Tuesday.

Just two weeks after announcing he’s leaving Winnipeg’s Reid Carruthers team, Moskowy broke the news that he’s put together an All Star foursome to curl out of Regina and hopefully end Saskatchewan’s 38-year Brier drought next season.

“We’ve thrown around a lot of different ideas the past while but today I can say that, yeah, I’m coming home and will be curling out of Saskatchewan,” Moskowy said. “Matt Dunstone, who skipped Steve Laycock’s team at the Brier, is a young 23-year old stallion who’s been one of the brightest prospects in the game the past few years and is going to skip.

“I’m gonna play third. Catlin Schneider is coming back home to play second after curling with Johnny Morris out in B.C. this year and Dustin Kidby, a Regina boy who played in the Brier two years ago with Newfoundland, is going to play lead.”

Moskowy feels this is a team that Southern Saskatchewan curling fans can get behind.

“That’s three born-and-raised Regina boys together, living here, and Matt Dunstone – from Winnipeg – will be bunking in with me for the winter,” Moskowy explained. “I’m really looking forward to being back home and having four guys playing out of Regina.”

And, as Moskowy admitted, it’s not just any four players.

“I’m ecstatic,” Moskowy said. “As soon as Matt and me started talking, we tried to decide who would skip. We really didn’t care who was skipping. Winning is what’s important. That was the biggest thing. As bad as I wanted to come back, I didn’t want to do it for the sake of doing it. I wanted to get the right four guys who would put their egos aside and do what’s best to put together a great team. We want to bring that Brier championship back to Regina.”

Moskowy originally joined the revamped Team Carruthers in 2014 and captured two Manitoba championships, one Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling title and a Canada Cup during the quadrennial. The Regina product skipped Saskatchewan to the Canadian junior championship in 2011.
