BROOKS CLINCHES FIRST AT WESTERN CANADA CUP
First place was on the line Wednesday evening at the Junior A Western Canada Cup in Estevan.
The AJHL-champion Brooks Bandits clubbed the MJHL-champion Portage Terriers 9-3 at Affinity Place to clinch first place in the round robin.
It was Portage’s final round robin game of the tournament, and now they wait to find if they are in the Championship game on Saturday night or the 3 vs 4 game.
“I think the four teams that are left are good clubs. It’s one game in a tournament and we are fortunate enough to either play in the 1 vs 2 or the 3 vs 4 so we are okay with either scenerio,” explained Terriers Head Coach and General Manager Blake Spiller.
Thursday will be the final day of the round robin at the 2016 Crescent Point Western Canada Cup and it kicks off with a big contest between Melfort and West Kelowna. A West Kelowna win and they are in the championship game, but a Melfort victory puts Portage in the 1 vs 2 game. That game fires up at 2:00pm. The other contest Thursday night features the Brooks Bandits taking on the Estevan Bruins at 7:00pm.
