Dave Bolland scored in the sixth round of a shootout as the Florida Panthers posted a comeback 3-2 victory over the Montreal Canadiens. Tomas Fleischmann and Steven Kampfer scored in regulation time for the Panthers. Brendan Gallagher scored twice in regulation for Montreal, which outshot Florida 39-21 and held a 2-0 lead in the second period.

Alexandre Burrows and Radim Vrbata scored in a shootout and the Vancouver Canucks rallied three times to post a 5-4 victory over the Rangers, ending New York’s four-game winning streak. Henrik Sedin scored twice for the Canucks, including a tying goal on a rebound with 2:00 left in regulation after Vancouver pulled goaltender Ryan Miller early.

Nicklas Backstrom scored two second-period goals and added an assist, Alex Ovechkin added his league-leading 38th goal and an assist and the Washington Capitals defeated the Winnipeg Jets 5-1. Troy Brouwer added an empty-net goal and an assist and John Carlson also scored for Washington, which has won four of five.

Alberta’s Val Sweeting is closing in on the top seed at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts. Sweeting scored two in the 10th end to edge defending champion Rachel Homan 7-6. That improves Alberta’s record to 9-and-0 at the Canadian women’s curling championship with two draws left in the round-robin portion of the tournament. Saskatchewan’s Stefanie Lawton has clinched a playoff spot with sole possession of third place at 7-3.

The Toronto Raptors decided to stand pat at Thursday’s NBA trade deadline. General manager Masai Ujiri says it is a “huge vote of confidence” for his lineup. Ujiri says he fielded some calls but wasn’t close to making a deal. The Raptors are currently second in the Eastern Conference, and visit the East-leading Atlanta Hawks Friday night.

It’s back to work in the NBA with a pair of games resuming after the extended All-Star break. Defending NBA champion San Antonio is in L-A to play the Clippers and the Oklahoma City Thunder are home to the Dallas Mavericks.
