Ottawa Senators owner Eugene Melnyk underwent a successful liver transplant yesterday. The team says both Melnyk and his annonymous donor are resting comfortably at Toronto General Hospital and doing well. The Senators announced last week that Melnyk was in need of a live liver transplant and put 12 people through a screening process.

The Houston Rockets couldn’t stop Steph Curry. The NBA MVP hit two free throws in the final seconds to finish with 34 points, and the Golden State Warriors rallied from 16 points down in the second quarter to beat Houston 110-106 in Game 1 of the Western Conference finals. James Harden had 28 points and 11 rebounds for the Rockets.

Make it six losses in seven games for the Toronto Blue Jays. David Freese drove in the tiebreaking run with a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning as the Angels topped Toronto 3-2 at Rogers Centre. Aaron Sanchez pitched seven-and-a-third innings for the Blue Jays, striking out five batters in the loss.

Around the league, David Ortiz and Mike Napoli hit home runs as the Boston Red Sox beat Texas 4-3. A-J Pollock had a pinch-hit, tiebreaking two-run homer in the eighth to lift Arizona to a 4-2 win over the struggling Miami Marlins, and Brian Dozier and Trevor Plouffe went yard as the Minnesota Twins topped Pittsburgh 8-5.

The NFL will turn to the South for its host cities for the 2019 and 2020 Super Bowls. New Orleans, Atlanta, South Florida and Tampa will bid for those games. Of those four, New Orleans staged the game most recently, after the 2012 season, when the Superdome had a power outage in the third quarter. The Big Easy has hosted 10 Super Bowls.
