CANADA TO FACE GERMANY AT KEN GOFF BOXING CLASSIC

REGINA — Team Canada’s elite men’s boxing team will step into the boxing ring against Team Germany at the 23rd annual Ken Goff Memorial Boxing Classic (KGMBC), hosted by the Regina Boxing Club. The KGMBC is on Friday, May 13, 2016 at 8 p.m. at the Credit Union EventPlex in Regina, SK.

There will be 8 bouts including Team Canada’s Arthur Biyarslanov (64kg) and Team Germany’s Artem Hariutyunyan (64kg), who have both qualified for the Rio 2016 Summer Olympic Games. The KGMBC is an international competition recognized internationally as a premier Olympic style boxing card and is the only boxing competition in Canada where Team Canada’s elite team comes together to compete. “Team Canada and Team Germany will both be represented at the Rio 2016 Summer Olympic Games so the competitive energy in the boxing ring is going to be intense,” said Pat Fiacco, President of Boxing Canada. “Team Germany is ranked as one of the best teams at the elite competitive level and lost to Team Canada in Regina in 2009, so we can expect to experience the best boxing entertainment in the event’s history.”

The teams will arrive one week before the event for a seven day training camp at the Regina Boxing Club in preparation for the AIBA Open Boxing Final World Olympic Qualification tournament in Baku, Azerbaijan in June. Two days after the KGMBC there will be are rematch at the Brandt Cup on Sunday, May 15 at the DoubleTree by Hilton.

The Regina Boxing Club was founded in 1949 by Ken Goff. Ken’s founding vision, to help create our community create better citizens, still exists today, coaching youth as young as seven years old.
