The Nipawin Hawks and Estevan Bruins are heading to Estevan in a 1-1 series tie in the Canalta Cup championship series as the Hawks bounced back on home ice Sunday, beating the Bruins 4-1 to square things up.
‘AAA’ Midget call-up Adam Beckman scored twice for the Hawks. The 2001-born forward from Saskatoon also had a goal and an assist in one regular season game with the Hawks, and he led the Saskatchewan “AAA” Midget Hockey League in scoring with 44-goals and 78-points in 41-games with the Battlefords Stars.
20-year-old Logan Casavant also added a pair of goals for Nipawin, his 5th and 6th of the post-season, while Arthur Miller added his 7th for the Bruins.
Shots were 38-24 in favour of the Hawks, with Declan Hobbs earning the victory with a 23-save performance. Bo Didur stopped 34 at the other end for the Bruins, who had scored five goals or more in their previous six games before Sunday.
Penalty kills were on point both ways, as the two clubs combined to kill off all 18 powerplays on the night. The Hawks went 0/10 while the Bruins were 0/8 with the man-advantage.
The two teams have just one day off and they’ll use that to travel as Games 3 & 4 go Tuesday & Wednesday in Estevan.
