CFL ISSUES STATEMENT ON ELKS COVID OUTBREAK

IMG_8339

The Canadian Football League made the following announcement Sunday night:

The Canadian Football League is postponing this Thursday’s game in Toronto between the Toronto Argonauts and Edmonton Elks after receiving word earlier today that a number of Elks players have tested positive for COVID-19. This is in keeping with the standard of care for COVID-19 and professional sport. It also reflects our desire to put the health and safety of our players, coaches and staff – as well as public health – above all other considerations.

The Elks will not practice or travel until our Chief Medical Officers and public health officials have assured us it is safe for them to do so. All of the Elks’ Tier One personnel, including players, coaches and support staff will now be subjected to an enhanced testing protocol which includes isolation.

The Elks’ most recent opponent, the BC Lions, will participate in an enhanced protocol and will be monitored closely this week.  Upon review with our Chief Medical Officers, we do not believe the Lions were exposed to a high risk of infection. The league is now working to reschedule the game between the Elks and the Argonauts.

We know this is disappointing news for CFL fans, but we are confident they will overwhelmingly support our decision to put safety first.

This league should just fold until it restructures it’s operations for the better, too many variables in play. Fan attendance is atrocious, expect financial losses hard to recover from. A total restructure from a business perspective is imperative, the sooner the better. Last minute emergencies to rectify not conducive to a healthy overall product.

That is the sad truth. Absolutely great game but a horrid business with zero future. Time to dismantle and start over. The cfl came after other cnd pro leagues..it is an evolution. In the ncaa teams switch conferences or leagues raid conferences. It is to grow and grow not sit stagnant.

Kids would go for a cfl/xfl merger and thats who needs to be in the stands. The centralized management system needs to happen too.

It also benefits coaches and players. They can gain experience to move up or stay and make a living.

This league is done. Completely preventable. No player/staff should be allowed on a cfl entity without vaccination. Don’t compline then gone. This is also how you remove the ratio. Those fans paid to watch football and just got blatantly ripped off.
