CFL ROUND-UP
HAMILTON – Tim White is remaining with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
Hamilton re-signed the veteran receiver to a two-year deal Tuesday. White became a free agent Feb. 13.
The five-foot-10, 185-pound American had 75 catches for a CFL-best 1,269 yards and eight touchdowns in 2023 to earn league all-star honours for a second straight season.
In 2022, White recorded 94 receptions for 1,265 yards and eight TDs.
White is entering his fourth season with Hamilton. He has started 47 regular-season games with the club, registering 225 catches for 3,308 yards and 18 TDs while rushing for 222 yards on 47 carries.
Before arriving in Hamilton, White spent time in the NFL with the Baltimore Ravens (2017-18), New York Jets (2019) and New Orleans Saints (2019-20).
VANCOUVER – A defensive back who enjoyed some success over 26 games with the Denver Broncos, is giving the CFL a shot.
The B.C. Lions announced Tuesday that American Duke Dawson has been signed to the team’s training camp roster.
The five-foot-11, 182-pound Dawson moves north after six seasons in the NFL, highlighted by a stint with the Denver Broncos from 2019-20 where he recorded 27 combined tackles (17 solo, 10 assisted) and two pass breakups. He then suffered a torn ACL in week 14 of the 2020 campaign and was assigned to the practice roster to begin 2021.
The native of Cross City, Fla., began 2022 in training camp with the Carolina Panthers before signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers’ practice squad that October.
REGINA – The Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed American offensive lineman Jonathan Hubbard.
Hubbard (6’4-310) signed with the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted free agent following the 2020 NFL Draft, spending the season on the practice roster. He went on to sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2021 and stayed with the Bucs through August of 2022.
The 26-year-old left tackle spent five seasons (2015-19) at Northwestern State, making 27 starts, including 11 as a senior in 2019. With Hubbard in the lineup, the Demons’ offensive line allowed a sack on just 3.9 percent of its 517 pass attempts that year. In addition, in his last two seasons, Hubbard contributed to an offence that broke several school records, including consecutive seasons where they rewrote the single season passing record.
REGINA – The Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed American defensive back Marcus Murphy.
Murphy (6’1-200) signed as an undrafted free agent by the Atlanta Falcons following the 2021 NFL Draft and spent training camp with the team. In 2023, he played with the XFL’s Orlando Guardians and tallied 25 tackles, two pass deflections and one interception.
Collegiately, Murphy spent three seasons (2018-20) at Mississippi State, suiting up for 22 games. He logged 66 tackles, including three tackles for loss, two interceptions – including one he returned for a touchdown – and five pass deflections. In 2020, he finished the year with the highest tackling grade (81.2) on the team, according to Pro Football Focus.
