Calgary Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel is pleased to announce the re-signing of international linebacker Glenn Love. As per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Love, who had been eligible to become a free agent in February, played 15 regular-season games during the 2014 season. He excelled on special teams as he ranked second on the Stampeders and eighth in the CFL with 20 special-teams tackles. Love was named the CFL’s special teams player of the week for Week 18 after making a career-high four special-teams tackles in a 40-27 victory over the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

The 25-year-old UCLA product also served as a backup linebacker for the Red and White in 2014 and made one start on defence. Love had seven defensive tackles for the season and had four tackles and a sack during a July 12 game against Toronto.

“I’m very pleased that Glenn has made the decision to remain with the Stampeders,” said Hufnagel. “He has been an excellent special-teams player for us and has also made valuable contributions on defence when called upon.”

Love signed with the Stampeders as a free agent on Aug. 28, 2013, after starting his CFL career with the BC Lions in 2012. In 20 career games, he has recorded 16 defensive tackles, 22 special-teams tackles and two sacks.

“I’ve enjoyed my time in Calgary and it was an easy choice to stay with the Stampeders,” said Love. “We have a great coaching staff, a great group of players and great fans and I’m looking forward to the new season and to putting in the hard work that will be necessary as we try to repeat as Grey Cup champions.”

EDMONTON (CP) – The Edmonton Eskimos signed former Heisman Trophy finalist Jordan Lynch to a contract Wednesday.

The 24-year-old quarterback spent four seasons at Northern Illinois and in 2013 was a finalist for the Heisman, which is awarded annually to the most outstanding player in U.S. college football. Lynch finished third in the voting behind winner Jameis Winston of Florida State and Alabama’s A.J. McCarron.

Lynch, a six-foot, 216-pound Chicago native, completed 509 of 824 passes (61.8 per cent) over his college career with 51 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. He also had 4,343 career rushing yards on 662 carries for 48 touchdowns.

Lynch signed with the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent last year and was converted to the running back position. He had 13 carries for 42 yards in two pre-season games before he was waived.

"Jordan was eligible for the 2014 NFL Draft, but was not drafted. The Chicago Bears signed him to a contract as a running back shortly after the draft concluded.[8] The Bears released Lynch on August 29, 2014.[9]"
Imagine you are a Heisman finalist at QB and they don't even draft you and sign you as a RB. No wonder he came to Canada.

Quick observation, i keep seeing things on Riders facebook and RF.com from 'fans' commenting that we should be signing Sheets.

How can we claim to be the leagues most knowledgeable fans if we arent smart enough to know he is still Oakland property first and secondly the CFL season will be weeks underway before he can even start really training from his achilles injury. It is a 12 month recovery and it happened in late August.

get it together!

Riders fanbase clueless. If your not smart enough to know that by now based on the FB comments, you yourself are the leader of the pac with the rest of the Saskatchewan prairie country "bum"kins.

Sheets will be looking for his big pay-day if Oakland lets him go. Minimum 200k …. maybe 175k if you're lucky. Remember, he put a post on Twitter laughing at the fact the Riders offered him 148k. So Heenan, Dressler, SJ Green, Sheets and Jones all want north of 200k. We can only afford 2 of them at the most. Rider fans need to start getting their heads wrapped around the fact that we won't have all these guys we want. Also, if you think 200k is unrealistic for those players …… (in case you missed it) Dom Picard signed… Read more »

You're missing one point Mike…..Taman said in the last week that the Riders are already close to the cap.

Riders will offer Dressler 200k and hold money for Heenan but won't get into a bidding war.

Riders fully prepared to start two international tackles.

TBrack and Hurl as good as gone unless their demands come down.

Changing of the guard coming…

I'll clarify one thing about the cap and Taman's comments… Riders are close to the cap based on Taman's plan on what's the max he will spend on certain positions that still need to be replaced. By cutting Picard, he frees up money to give guys like W.Brown, T.Brack, S.Hurl, back-up QB with maybe a 10% raise to some. Anyone who asks for more than that, is likely gone. Heenan will almost triple what his salary has been. Where does this money come from?? I heard Rod (or co-host) say on the cage the other day that he thought the… Read more »

Hey Hamilton Bumkin…..maybe you need to concentrate on your own FA list.

Almost all FA in Hamilton will be looking for raises…some substantial raises …… Banks, Bowman, Breaux, Hickman, Wojt, LeFevour.

Tasker and O'Neill just recieved substantial raises.

You're not immune to changes approaching.

2 Cups in last 30 years…….Good Luck!
