CFL SIM: CALGARY 18 HAMILTON 8

HAMILTON – The virtual Calgary Stampeders are back on track.

One week after a surprising 33-6 loss at Toronto, the Stampeders rebounded with a 18-8 victory over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in a computer-simulated game on Doug Flutie’s Maximum Football Thursday night. It was the first of a Thursday Night Football doubleheader on the 2020 CFL SIM schedule, opening Week 5.

Calgary (3-1) pivot Bo Levi Mitchell was in control throughout, passing for 190 yards and a 35-yard touchdown pass to Colton Hunchak. Hunchak led all Stamps receivers with 109 yards before a sold-out crowd at virtual Tim Hortons Field. Mitchell spread the ball around to eight different receivers including Hunchak, Eric Rogers, Josh Huff, Hergy Mayala, Richie Sindani, Kamar Jorden, Ka’Deem Carey and Michael Klukas. Carey was the Stamps leading rusher with 30 yards while Rene Parades was 3/4 on field goals.

The Ticats led 3-2 after the first quarter but trailed 13-3 at halftime and 16-6 going into the fourth.

The Ticats (1-3) again struggled to move the ball effectively with QB Jeremiah Masoli who passed for 190 yards and two interceptions. Brandon Banks caught 12 passes for 66 yards while Brian Jones had 64 yards on seen grabs. Sean Thomas-Erlington was the leading rusher with 25 yards. Matthew White was 1/2 on field goals. Tunde Adeleke and Jumal Rolle had interceptions while Julian Howsare recorded a sack.

One notable viewer was Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Alex Singleton – a former star Stampeder – who commented on the Stamps’ strong run defense.

The Ticats visit Ottawa in Week 6 while Calgary visits the Montreal Alouettes.

Week 5 continues with Montreal at Winnipeg and Ottawa at BC. Both games will be computer-generated at www.twitch.tv./nhacker49.
