CFL SIM DOUBLEHEADER: WINNIPEG 16 TORONTO 0, EDMONTON 22 HAMILTON 7
TORONTO – Anyone concerned about a slow start by Winnipeg’s defense in the 2020 CFL SIM season had their prayers answered in the first of a Friday Night Football doubleheader.
In a computer-generated game on Doug Flutie’s Maximum Football, the Blue Bombers rolled into BMO Field and shutout the Toronto Argonauts 16-0. The Argos D was ferocious too, sacking Bomber quarterback Zach Collaros a SIM-record four times.
Bomber kicker Justin Medlock was a perfect 4/4 on field goals and Andrew Harris had an impressive 78 rushing yards. DE Willie Jefferson notched a sack and accounted for a safety touch to cap Winnipeg’s scoring.
The Bombers led 3-0, 9-0 and 14-0 by quarter.
Collaros finished the night with 217 yards passing while his counterpart Matt Nichols threw for 253 yards and an interception.
The Bombers improved to 2-4 with the win and will visit Ottawa (0-7) in Week 9. The Argos fell to 5-2 and will visit Calgary (5-2) in Week 9.
EDMONTON – It was a wild night in the Alberta capital. Under a heat warning at Brick Field at Commonwealth Stadium, the Edmonton E’s knocked off the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 22-7 in a computer-generated game on Doug Flutie’s Maximum Football.
Edmonton kicker Sean Whyte was a perfect 5/5 while WR Greg Ellingson got the RP Bump leading his team in receiving (83 yards) and scored his team’s lone touchdown.
The Ticats led 7-6 after the first quarter but trailed 15-7 at halftime. The E’s took a 22-7 lead into the fourth.
Edmonton pivot Trevor Harris threw for 236 yards and a pick while Hamilton quarterback Jeremiah Masoli tossed for just 120 yards and was torched for four interceptions.
Edmonton improved to a CFL SIM-best 6-1 and now head into a Week 9 bye. The Ticats dropped to 2-5 and will host Montreal in Week 9.
Week 8 concludes with the BC Lions (4-3) at the Montreal Alouettes (2-4) in the back-end of a home-and-home series. The Lions won the opener in Week 8, beating the Als 27-9 at BC Place for their fourth consecutive win. The game will be simulated at www.twitch.tv/nhacker49.
