CFL SIM: EDMONTON STUNNER! 2020 PLAYOFF MATCH-UPS SET
TORONTO – Facing a must-win scenario to clinch the #2 seed in the overall CFL SIM standings in the final game of the regular season, the Edmonton Football Club delivered on Saturday with a 19-15 upset victory over the Argonauts.
In a computer-simulated game on Doug Flutie’s Maximum Football, Edmonton QB Trevor Harris threw for 311 yards and kicker Sean Whyte booted four field goals to help the Green & Gold nail down home field in a division final of the Top 6 playoff format.
After a scoreless first quarter, Edmonton jumped out to a 10-2 halftime lead thanks to a 42-yard Whyte field goal and 18-yard touchdown reception by Joshua Stanbgby from Harris.
The Argos came out blazing to open the second half with QB Matt Nichols firing touchdown passes to Natey Adjei and Llevi Noel. Toronto lead 15-13 going into the fourth quarter.
However the Edmonton defense pitched a shutout in the final period and a pair of Whyte field goals put the game away.
Final score: Edmonton 19 Toronto 15
Toronto QB Matt Nichols threw for 332 yards, 2 TDs and 1 INT in a losing cause. Noel had 110 yards receiving while Adjei recorded 92. Juwan Brescacin caught four passes for 60 yards. RB Marcus Thigpen notched 39 yards rushing.
The Argos will go on the road in a division semifinal next Saturday, visiting the Ottawa RedBlacks (standings below). Saskatchewan will host BC in the other div semi.
MONTREAL – The other game of a Saturday doubleheader had zero playoff implications. BC’s win at Hamilton Friday night knocked the Blue Bombers out of postseason contention and Winnipeg rounded out their season with a 16-9 win over the Alouettes. Neither Winnipeg nor Montreal will make the playoffs.
So here are the final standings, and the playoff match-ups are set:
The division semifinals will go Saturday, November 7 in a doubleheader broadcast on Facebook Live on The Rod Pedersen Show Facebook channel beginning at 5:00 pm ET.
