CFL SIM FRIDAY DOUBLEHEADER: LIONS, ALOUETTES WIN!
VANCOUVER – Virtual Mike Reilly did Mike Reilly things in the second game of a CFL SIM doubleheader on Friday Night Football at BC Place.
In a computer-simulated game on Doug Flutie’s Maximum Football, the BC quarterback threw for 364 yards and touchdown strikes to Caleb Holley (78 yards) and Dominique Rhymes (15 yards) in a 27-12 rout of the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
The first quarter had considerable intrigue with three lead changes, but BC led 11-3 after the opening 15 minutes. There was some controversy midway through the second quarter when Lions great Wally Buono – who’d come down to the sidelines from his luxury suite – convinced the officials to overturn their call of a Rider first down following a third down gamble in BC territory. It wound up as a turnover on downs and the Rider coaches were furious, but there was no challenge. In short order the Lions upped their lead to 17-3 at the break.
Rider quarterback Cody Fajardo struggled to get on track all night – albeit passing for 359 yards – however two late surges led to turnovers in Lions territory.
BC kicker Sergio Castillo was 2/2 on field goals while Saskatchewan’s Brett Lauther went 4/5 with his only miss clanking off the left upright late in the fourth quarter. Rider defenders L.J. McCray and Nick Marshall both came up with second half interceptions, however the green guys couldn’t convert them into touchdowns.
The loss was Saskatchewan’s third in a row and dropped their record to 9-5. BC’s victory upped their record to 7-7 in the tight CFL SIM West.
HAMILTON – In the early game of the doubleheader, in a battle of 4-9 teams at Tim Hortons Field, Montreal quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. survived a 170-yard passing night to lead the Alouettes to a 12-8 victory over the Tiger-Cats.
In this low-scoring affair, Montreal lead 3-2 after the first quarter, 6-5 at the break and a 6-point fourth quarter powered them to victory.
Als kicker Tyler Crapigna accounted for all of their scoring, going 4/4 on field goals. Montreal running back James Wilder Jr. had 48 yards rushing on 10 carries. Ticats quarterback Dane Evans threw for 259 yards but was picked off four times. WR Brandon Banks led all Hamilton receivers with 101 yards.
Montreal improved to 5-9 while Hamilton dropped to 4-10.
