CFL SIM LABOUR DAY DOUBLEHEADER: RIDERS, STAMPEDERS ROMP AT HOME

SASKATCHEWAN 29 WINNIPEG 0

REGINA – It was a lot of laughs, big plays and good times but in the end, Monday’s pair of Labour Day CFL SIM games both ended up as lopsided victories for the home teams.

In the first of two games computer-simulated on Doug Flutie’s Maximum Football, Roughriders cornerback Nick Marshall stole the show in the Labour Day Classic notching three interceptions – including a 25-yard pick six to seal the contest – as Saskatchewan romped to a 29-0 triumph over the rival Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

The Riders were in control throughout as kicker Brett Lauther notched five field goals on the day. The Green & White led 3-0, 9-0 and 16-0 by quarter. Saskatchewan’s lone offensive touchdown came on a Cody Fajardo-to-Brayden Lenius 23-yard strike at 11:20 of the third quarter.

Fajardo passed for 327 yards on the day while his counterpart Zach Collaros of the Blue Bombers threw for 265.

The win upped Saskatchewan’s CFL SIM-leading record to 9-2 while Winnipeg fell to 4-7. The teams will meet again in the Banjo Bowl in Winnipeg in Week 14.

CALGARY 35 EDMONTON 8

CALGARY – The day’s fireworks were set off at McMahon Stadium in the latest heated instalment of the Battle of Alberta.

On a rainy day in the Foothills, the Stampeders scored early and often, leading 3-0 after the first quarter and 15-7 at halftime. Kicker Rene Parades notched a pair of first half field goals while linebacker Nate Holley returned a Trevor Harris interception 35-yards to the house. Edmonton’s lone touchdown on the day came from a Harris-to-Ricky Collins Jr. 4-yard major at 13:06 of the second quarter.

The Stampeders continued to pour it on the second half with two more Parades field goals, staking Calgary to a 21-8 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Calgary continued to go for the jugular with the game out of reach as Mitchell threw touchdowns to Ka’Deem Carey (4 yards) and Richie Sindani (42 yards) in the final period. The Stamps kept their foot on the gas with three sacks on Trevor Harris in the dying moments.

The victory upped Calgary’s record to 9-3 while Edmonton dropped to 6-5, and saw their losing streak hit three games.
