CFL SIM: REDBLACKS TRIUMPH AND ALS UPSET!

OTTAWA – In the first of a 2020 CFL SIM Week 9 doubleheader on Saturday, the Ottawa RedBlacks finally hit the win column with a 10-1 victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

In a computer-simulated game on Doug Flutie’s Maximum Football, virtual new RedBlacks coach Paul LaPolice earned his first victory and it came over the club he helped lead to the 2019 Grey Cup title!

It was a low-scoring affair throughout. The teams were scoreless after the opening quarter and Ottawa led 3-0 at halftime courtesy of a 30-yard Lewis Ward field goal. The teams kept it clean in the third quarter and the lone touchdown of the game came in the fourth quarter when Nick Arbuckle found Jerminic Smith for a 5-yard major. That came right after Arbuckle hooked up with WR Marco Dubois on a 48-yard reception which put the RedBlacks in the redzone.

Ottawa defenders Avery Ellis and Cleion Lang both sacked Bomber QB Zach Collaros while LB Don Unamba came up with an interception. Collaros passed for 196 yards while Arbuckle threw for 211, one TD and one INT.

The win improved the RedBlacks record to 1-7 while the Bombers fell to 2-5.

HAMILTON – In a battle of 2-5 teams at Tim Hortons Field in the second game of the doubleheader, Montreal’s defense was ferocious in a 19-13 victory over the hometown Ticats.

In a computer-generated game on Doug Flutie’s Maximum Football, the Alouettes defense picked off Ticats QB Jeremiah Masoli three times and DE John Bowman came up with a pair of fumble recoveries. The loss spoiled a fabulous outing by Ticats WR Brandon Banks who had 147 yards on 20 receptions!

Masoli passed for 270 yards while his counterpart Vernon Adams Jr. passed for 208 yards and was picked off twice. RB James Wilder Jr. notched 75 yards rushing on 13 carries.

The win upped Montreal’s record to 3-5 while the Ticats fell to 2-6.

Earlier in Week 9, Saskatchewan (5-2) defeated BC (5-4) by an 18-13 score. Week 9 closes with Toronto (5-2) at Calgary (6-2). The game will be simulated at www.twitch.tv/nhacker49.
