CFL SIM: ROUGHRIDERS TROUNCE EDMONTON 36-15
REGINA – The game billed as Canada’s Game of the Week in Week 11 of the 2020 CFL SIM failed to live up to its billing, unless you’re a Roughriders fan.
In a computer-generated game on Doug Flutie’s Maximum Football, Saskatchewan scored early and often in a 36-15 rout of the Edmonton Football Club at a virtually soldout Mosaic Stadium on Friday.
In a match-up of 6-2 clubs, Edmonton quarterback Trevor Harris saw his first pass intercepted by Rider DB Elie Bouka and Sask cashed in just a few plays later with Cody Fajardo finding sophomore WR Paul McRoberts in the end zone with a 6-yard pass and an early 7-0 lead.
The Roughriders led 11-0, 24-6 and 30-6 by quarter. Kicker Brett Lauther booted seven field goals – one shy of a franchise record – with his only miss coming off a clank of the right upright in the south endzone in the first quarter. Fajardo also hooked up with WR Brayden Lenius for a 16-yard score late in the first half as part of a 294-yard night. McRoberts led all Rider receivers with 85 yards followed by Lenius with 79. Fajardo utilized seven different receivers (Powell, Stafford, McRoberts, Williams-Lambert, Lenius, Kyran Moore and Shaq Evans).
Edmonton’s Trevor Harris finished the night with 275 yards passing including a 15-yard TD to Harry McMaster in the final minute. Anthony Parker led Edmonton with 107 yards receiving while Brendan Burks and Shaquille Cooper platooned in the backfield.
The win upped the Riders record to 7-2 while Edmonton fell to 6-3.
Earlier in Week 11, Calgary improved to a CFL SIM-best 8-3 record with a 23-13 win over Winnipeg (3-6) on Thursday.
The week will close with Ottawa (2-7) at Montreal (3-6) and Hamilton (2-7) at Toronto (6-2). Both games will be simulated at www.twitch.tv/nhacker49.
