CFL SIM: STAMPEDERS 42 LIONS 7

SIMREILLY

CALGARY – There are three things you can virtually count on: death, taxes, and the Calgary Stampeders romping out of the gate.

In a computer-simulated CFL contest Thursday evening at McMahon Stadium on Doug Flutie’s Maximum Football video game, Bo Levi Mitchell threw for 376 yards and two touchdowns as his virtual Calgary Stampeders throttled the BC Lions 42-7 to improve to 2-0 on the young CFL SIM season.

The Stamps jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the opening 15 minutes and poured on 21 points in the second quarter for a 28-3 lead at halftime. They kept the pedal down in the second half, taking a 39-6 lead into the fourth quarter.

It was another West Division match where virtual Lions QB Mike Reilly heaved three interceptions as part of a 230 yard night. Reilly served up three picks in a 26-17 loss at Edmonton in Week 1. Reilly was victimized by Stampeders DB Jamar Wall who ballhawked two interceptions, returning one for a score.

Veteran Stamps WR Richie Sindani followed up a fabulous Week 1 showing with five receptions for 121 yards and a major on Thursday Night Football. Calgary Dinos product Michael Klukas led the way for the Stamps with 145 yards on four grabs and a TD. Running back Ka’Deem Carey led Calgary in rushing yards with 30 on 13 carries while Rene Parades was 3/5 on field goals.

Lions WR Lemar Durant was Mike Reilly’s favourite target, hauling in 10 passes for 32 yards. Bryan Burnham had 91 yards on three receptions while John White IV had 26 yards on the ground. Aaron Grymes and Hakeem Johnson both intercepted Bo Levi. All Star kicker Sergio Castillo was 1/1 in the field goal department.

The Stamps (2-0) will look to keep their perfect record intact next Friday, June 26 when they face the Grey Cup champion Blue Bombers (0-1) in Winnipeg’s home-opener. The Lions return home in Week 3 to welcome the Edmonton Eskimos (1-0) in their home-opener on Saturday, June 27. It’s a 4:00 pm PT kickoff at BC Place.
