CFL TRADE: ALOUETTES ACQUIRE PLESIUS

Montreal – The Montreal Alouettes announced on Sunday that the club has acquired Quebec-native linebacker Frédéric Plesius from the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in exchange for national linebacker Nicholas Shortill.

Plesius (6’01”, 234 lbs.) returns to Montreal after spending the first four years of his professional career playing for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. The 29-year-old athlete suited up for 66 regular season games for Hamilton, racking up 25 defensive tackles as well as an impressive 58 special teams tackles. He added a sack and an interception.
 
“We are very pleased to have acquired Frédéric, an established and valuable player in this league,” said Alouettes General Manager Kavis Reed. “We believe he will be a nice addition to our team. He is a versatile and intelligent player and we have the feeling he can be a solid contributor on the field. We really look forward in integrating him to our team.”

The Lennoxville, QC native experienced the best season of his career in 2016, recording 23 special teams tackles and three defensive tackles, including a sack. Following his brilliant collegiate career, Plesius was selected in the second round (10th total) by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the 2012 CFL Canadian Draft. He played a key role in the two Vanier Cup Championships he won with the Université Laval Rouge et Or in 2010 and 2012. Plesius collected 123.5 tackles during his four seasons with the Rouge et Or, being awarded several defensive honours along the way. He is a former Champlain Lennoxville College Cougar. Before joining the CFL in 2012, Plesius was invited to a tryout with the Philadelphia Eagles at their rookie camp.
