CHAMBLIN NOTES FROM FRIDAY

Roughrider head coach Corey Chamblin held his day-before news conference on Friday. Saturday night the Riders host Edmonton in the regular season finale at 6 pm on 620 CKRM. Among his comments, Chamblin discussed Darian Durant NOT being on the roster for the game:

– Durant progressed this week. But he’s not ready to play. It’s not just physical, it’s mental too.

– We’ll evaluate Darian from this week and decide next week. We have a game Saturday, then some off days, and then we’ll go from there.

– We lost the last game last year, against Edmonton, and went on to win the Grey Cup. None of Saturday counts.

– It’s not a preseason tune-up for the season. It’s a tune-up for the playoffs. I want to see on tape who’s ready for the playoffs.

– The mindset won’t change regardless of what happens in Vancouver tonight. We set our roster and the guys that are in there are capable of winning a football game.

– Xavier doesn’t have anything to prove to me. He has to prove he’s strong enough, and consistent enough, to play in the playoffs. When he was benched awhile back, he said he wouldn’t be bitter and wanted to move forward. That was encouraging.

– We almost put Fulton on last week but we wanted to give Adock two starts at LT. But next Sunday in the playoffs, it’ll be Fulton.

– I won’t take until next Saturday to name a starting QB for the playoffs. I’ll know by the end of Day 2 who we’ll be going with.

– Darian is out of the rehab phase. The doctors have released him to us and now it’s up to George and I about what we see out of him and our comfort level.

– I need to see Kerry Joseph finish quarters. But he won’t play the whole game.

– Durant got better each day. The last day was his best. He moved around, threw deep balls and pulled it. He looked more like the old Darian Durant.

– KJ has done a very good job with the situation he was thrown into. He’s been great on and off the field.

– The defensive front has been great but that’s because of the secondary! It’s a whole team thing. The sacks are split between the back end and the front end of the defense.

I had an argument this week with one of my old drinking buddies, Freddy. He said that Saturday's game was just another exhibition game and few fans would go to the game, choosing to sit at home and watch it from their Lazy Boys – as he said he would be doing. He thinks it will be under 20,000 like back in June for the Red Black game. I argued in the affirmative to my belief that the crowd for the game would be 30,000. My reasons for saying so are as follows: 1) It is the last chance for… Read more »

I look forward to seeing how Burdette does at the middle linebacker position. A great opportunity for him to show the coaches, team and fans what he can do and whether he is the solution to the MLB position.

Last game of the season and the riders are auditioning for a MLB position? An upcoming playoff game and no clear MLB?

Seriously DD is not mentally ready to play. How much more does he need to know? Quit with the head games just say we are not risking DD for this game.

So Chick, Foley and George owe everything to the undersized DBs. How gullible does Chamblin think we are? He should be a politician.

Is it just me or do other people think the rider coaches are trying to out coach themselves. They're trying too hard, less thinking, let the guys play football.
