CHAMBLIN RESPONDS

During a lengthy session with reporters following Tuesday’s closed Roughrider practice, head coach Corey Chamblin was asked how he’s able to keep a thick skin amidst all the criticism around the team and its 0-3 start.

“There’s two podiums waiting at the end of the year: a championship podium or a cross,” Chamblin began.  “And I’m prepared for either one of them.  If the fans want a new coach, they can get that ‘cuz I’m prepared.  What I say by that is I do my best and if they’re short-tempered and they want to move on, that’s up to management and them.  At the end of the day I’ll still work and I’ll still be a great coach whether it’s here in Saskatchewan this year or somewhere else next year or the next couple years.

“To be honest I don’t give a damn about that.  When they want to come work and put the work in, then they can get the results.  Right now we’re doing some good things but at the end of the day, just stay patient.  When we get that championship, just make sure the guys that want on our team get on that boat with us.”

Chamblin also said the thought of being fired doesn’t even cross his mind when he lays down at night.  All he asks from GM Brendan Taman is that he be honest with him regarding where he stands.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced today that they have signed international defensive back Geoff Tisdale to the roster. As per club policy details of the contracts were not released.

Tisdale  (5’11 – 195) is entering his eighth CFL season after originally joining the league with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 2008 where he played his first three seasons. The Pittsburgh State product played the 2011 season with the Calgary Stampeders, returned to Hamilton for 2012, then spent the last two seasons with the Montreal Alouettes after signing with them in February, 2013 as a free agent.

Through 114 career games, the 29-year-old has collected 291 defensive tackles and 29 interceptions with four returned for touchdowns. He is a two-time East Division All-Star (2013, 14) and was named a CFL All-Star in 2013 after leading the league with seven interceptions.

——
The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced today national defensive end Levi Steinhauer has suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament and will miss the remainder of the 2015 season.

——

Veteran cornerback Paul Woldu is also practicing with the team, wearing #12.  His old #21 is occupied by Geoff Tisdale.

Well done Coach! I have absolute trust in you and am embarrassed at the amount of people who think they know better than the coaches and management. Stick around you cowards, Get your green on or get lost! Calling for this man to lose his job is absolutely ridiculous!!! There's a reason the season is 18 games long and better to get the losses out of the way now I'd say. The wins are going to come and when they do look out for this team. Nothing like negative publicity to make a team determined to do better. I'm willing… Read more »

If a coach can't get us to 18-0, then it is time for him to move on and time to bring in John Huffnagel who would love to be in green and white again. Only Huff can save us now!

Coach Chamblin should stop listening to the Green Zone. They may be trying their best to get the mob foaming at the mouth for his head, but the vast majority of fans want Coach Chamblin to stay and be successful in Sask.

It's nice to see Paul Woldu getting another chance. I think I can speak for a bunch of old racquetball and handball players who remember Paul working out at the Regina Court and Fitness Club when he was a teenager. I remember how impressed we were with his attitude, personality and work ethic. He was so skinny he had to run around in the shower to get wet. As his career progressed, through, High School, Junior, CIS and CFL, he always had a positive attitude and would take the time to visit. I wish him all the best for this… Read more »

Chamblin shouldn't have to answer these questions. The media in this town have no class.

I'm really tired of the crucify the coach (so-called) fans. So many people are ready to push the panic button. The Riders have had to deal with adversity early on and if the ball bounces their way on a few plays we're 2-1 or 3-0. Chamblain is a great coach and is working his ass off to get wins for this team. They will come and the Riders will be contenders at the end of the season.

At the worst (but busiest) of times this blog gets approximately 100 comments. 20 of them are people arguing back and forth and another 10 are so far off they can't even be claimed as logical. That leaves 70 people potentially negatively commenting.

There is what 2-3 million Rider fans in Canada!?!

I hope Friday Rider Nation jams the park and brings it for the Lions. 8 pm start means straight from work to the pub to get primed.

After hearing the interview today, I see a man oozing with confidence and not at all worried about his own future. The players seem to play for him and I am sure will get out of this losing slump sooner than later. Thanks CC for telling it like It is. Polkabill from the Peg

Micromanaging is part of the self entitled culture around here. Look at all the municipalities in the province. They exist to create micromanagers. Pity

It's about time Chamblin took the minority of fans and beat them (metaphorically of course) silly behind the barn. Great job today coach.

I really hope the true Rider nation will stand tall Friday and show how much we are behind our coach and team! Our fan title is being challenged by the minority.

The ego this guy has is great, however in the situation the team presently is in he needs to re-evaluate his coaching style and perhaps needs to bring in a defensive coordinator to help tweak the playbook and perhaps take over the play calling.

When your in the only show in a province this size the coach is going to have to answer these types of questions. Its part of the job and he can handle it.
