CHAMBLIN TABS JOSEPH

Saskatchewan Roughriders head coach Corey Chamblin has named Kerry Joseph as the starting quarterback for Sunday’s home game against the Edmonton Eskimos (2 pm, TSN, CKRM Rider Radio Network).

“Looks like it’ll be the old man this week,” Chamblin smiled after Friday’s closed practice.  “Looks like he’ll get a chance to break some history and do some things so I’m excited to see him.”

Chamblin was asked what Joseph did right in practice this week to earn the start.

“He’s done a good job this week but it was one of those things where it’s about opportunity,” Chamblin continued.  “I don’t think it’s what he did, it’s just about hey, it’s an opportunity and it’s a chance for him to show what he has.”

Chamblin was asked if he thought at any point he’d have a 41-year old quarterback start a game for his football club in 2014.

“I didn’t think I’d have a 41-year old player!” Chamblin laughed.  “That’s pretty much life, that’s how I live it, things change and I’m excited about it.  The one thing about football is you never know what you’re gonna have but this is what we have and I’m excited about it.”

I am looking forward to the game Sunday. Hope it is a sell-out. The weather will be great. It could be a classic, you never know. It will be special to see KJ in a Rider uniform and leading the team. Who would of ever thought this would happen in 2014! Its like a dream in a way – hopefully one to remember. Go Riders! Go Kerry!

Oh, it will be one to remember alright. Will the Riders score any points? Not enough, that is for sure.

The difference could be after handing off to Allen on 1st down every time at least on 2nd down, Kerry will run if he cant see an open receiver. Man will that be more interesting than watching poor Tino or Seth getting hammered.

Clarkenstein: Riders would have a better chance with either your 1st or 3rd options.

Everyone who is bashing the Riders for bringing in Joseph are missing the big picture. Sure the Riders have already made the playoffs, HOWEVER…..What do you think it will cost the Riders if we don't get to host a home playoff game? 1-2 MILLION dollars. I think as a business owner I would be doing EVERYTHING possible to ensure I didn't loose out on that kind of money. So to all those people who think we should keep Tino in there at this point in the season, think long and hard about the REAL NUMBER$$$$

If they run the same set of plays as they did in Montreal it doesn't matter who is behind center. It will be a tremendous failure. They have hung the qb's out to dry. You have to pass the ball in this league to win, when you attempt 12 passes in 3 quarters no qb is going to have stats or first downs. Joke.

Being a Durant supporter since the beginning I have never had to consider any other way for Sask at QB, but now I am wondering just what to do… My concern with annointing any of the three QB's, including Joseph 'this week', seems a strategy that might not work. Instead, the answer may exist moreso from the 'three-headed monster' approach at RB deployed earlier this year. Basically keep rotating and/or using whatever QB is either on a tear, or maybe certain QB's are better in certain scenaios, or have a unique package that works best for that QB. Instead of… Read more »

As much as I want Kerry to do well and I really do. I have my doubts. Not having started a game in over a year. As well as barely playing the previous two years with only 2 starts. How can you practice for a week with a new team and honestly expect to compete with a team on the up swing and a QB that has started most of this year and last. I have my fingers crossed as will be sending as much positive thoughts the Riders way… but I can see the EE's leaving Mosaic with a… Read more »
