CHICAGO BEARS COMING TO REGINA

The rising popularity of flag football in Canada has caught the eye of the National Football League.

On Wednesday, the NFL announced it is rewarding some of Canada’s fastest-growing flag football communities, including Regina, with visits from NFL players and teams this summer.

On June 18 members of the Chicago Bears organization will be in Regina to spend a day with players from the Regina Youth Flag Football League.
A league which already has NFL branding all over its apparel.

The visit will be used to introduce NFL PLAY 60,  the league’s youth health and wellness campaign, encouraging kids to be active for 60 minutes a day.

Mike Thomas, the convener of Regina’s youth league says it doesn’t even have to be football.

“You want to be able to have kids know that sport is a great opportunity no matter what it is. If it’s football, baseball, basketball, lacrosse or whatever, just to be active instead of being sedentary in front of a TV or an electronic.”

Still can't believe the CFL turned down an opportunity to sponsor this. And now look, mowing our lawn right in the league's strongest market!

Someone should ask Mike. I think he organizes it. What are the actual costs to run this league aside from getting the shirts donated does the league receive more financial assistance?

The cost to run the league this season is approx $360K. The only thing donated are the water bottles this season. Every single thing the players get has a cost associated with it. We have sponsors who help offset some of the expenditures to keep our costs down.

Back when I was a youngster, I loved my Lancaster/Reed lead Riders, but also loved Franco Harris and the Steelers. When we played aerial football in the park one kid might be Bradshaw and another kid Ed McQuarters: NFL, CFL, CIS – its all about enjoying live sports, in this case football.

I love the Sportscage, especially on Thursday.

Remple is radio gold! Love the guy, and love Lou. Enthusiasm is always there and he has an excellent sense of humour – I guess he would have to being from Moose Jaw and all.

Can you be anymore transparent Remple? You are the worst of the co-hosts out there and when one of those co-hosts is Mike Abou Mechrek that is saying a lot!
