CHRIS JONES NEWS CONFERENCE

Here are some notes and quotes from Edmonton coach Chris Jones’ Saturday news conference in advance of Sunday’s CFL Western Semifinal between the Eskimos and Roughriders:

– Mike Reilly didn’t talk to the media today? I didn’t know that. I’ll have to ask him about it.

– George Cortez and I were together for four years in Calgary. He’ll have something creative tomorrow. He can run play-action out of every play.  He’s been very successful over the years and the reason why is because he’s real well-prepared.

– They’ve done a real nice job over the years of getting to the playoffs and Grey Cups. They’ve got the experience so I’m excited to see how our guys match up.

– I’ve known Corey Chamblin since he was 18 or 19. He played Nickel for us at Tennesse Tech. Mike Smith was the defensive coordinator. He was a tremendous athlete in fact I think he ran a 4.3 on pro day. I have a picture of him in my house in a Jacksonville uniform. But tomorrow I’m gonna try to beat him bad.

– It’s not about me and him tomorrow. It’s about our players.

– We didn’t play well on defense in Regina last week. We had a lot of guys out of gaps.

– I’ve known Odell Willis a long time. He’s got to be living the dream playing pro football. Not a lot of people get out of Butler, Alabama. He wouldn’t be there if he wasn’t good at run defense.

– Mike Reilly’s done everything he can do to get ready for the game. We had him on a time schedule in practice, he didn’t take himself out.

*The Roughriders’ walk-through at Commonwealth Stadium is scheduled for 1:00 pm MT. Coach Corey Chamblin will address the media afterwards.

She remembers a time when the number of women on the field, cheer leaders, seemed to outnumber the women sitting in the stands. Anyhow, for some time now Hilda has had arthritis. But what she has noted in recent years is that when she has had bad pain in her… Read more »
