CITY OF REGINA HAPPY WITH RIDER TRANSIT SYSTEM

Over 8,000 fans used the free Rider Transit service as part of the final tune-up for new Mosaic Stadium on Saturday evening.

7,400 fans used the service at the May 27 Regina Rocks Mosaic Stadium concert. Traditionally approximately 1,000 fans have used the Rider service each game in previous years.

“Growth in numbers show us there is an appetite for the service and doing things differently in our new stadium. We are working hard to make sure that everyone who uses the service has the best experience possible,” said Kim Onrait, Executive Director of City Services & Major Projects.

“Our downtown route is the one that has the most potential for growth. It is quick and easy and allows us to use a significant amount of parking available downtown.”

Operationally there were very few glitches before, during and after the game on Saturday. Debriefs from the pre-season game with staff from Evraz Place, Saskatchewan Roughrider Football Club and the City of Regina began immediately following the game.

Mosaic Stadium will officially open on July 1 when the Riders host the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Fans hoping to attend both the Rider game and the fireworks in Wascana Park on Canada Day will be able to use the free Rider Transit service.

After the game on July 1 anyone who wants to get close to the fireworks can use the Southland Mall shuttle and they will be dropped off on the north side of Wascana Park. The fireworks are expected to begin at approximately 11 p.m. At the conclusion of the fireworks buses will depart from College Avenue between Albert Street and Smith Street to each of the four mall locations.
