COLLAROS TO THE 6-GAME
The Roughriders returned to the practice field on Sunday for the first time since Thursday’s 23-17 loss in Hamilton.
They did not have good news.
Head Coach Craig Dickenson revealed QB Zach Collaros has been placed on the 6-game Injured List. Collaros left the Hamilton game on the Riders’ first series after absorbing a headshot from Ticat LB Simoni Lawrence.
The Leader Post’s Rob Vanstone quoted Dickenson as saying the team will split reps this week between back-ups Cody Fajardo and Isaac Harker before deciding on a starter for Thursday’s game at Ottawa.
The Riders also confirmed the signing of FA QB Bryan Bennett on Sunday. Bennett was released by Winnipeg last week.
Meantime the Riders did not contact FA QB Darian Durant about a possible return to the team. The 36-year old announced his retirement from the CFL one year ago.
The Winnipeg Sun’s Paul Friesen reports the Riders approached the recently-retired Kevin Glenn on Friday, however he wasn’t interested.

Why would the riders reach out to Durant… he was not that good during his prime and he is way past that
Ok help me with this. The Riders played on Thursday. On Friday and Saturday Head Coach Craig Dickenson is telling the media that he thinks Collaros is going to be alright. Too me…. if someone says he thinks the starting QB is going to be alright. That usually means 99.99999% of the time that the QB will be practising and playing in the next game. It certainly doesn’t mean “he’s going to be ok because he can walk and talk. But he can’t football for a while because he’s now on the 6 game I.R. Why would Craig be telling… Read more »
You need to pay more attention 3rd and 1. HC Dickie mentioned he thought Collaros might be alright on Thursday. Thursday night, right after the game. Don’t be throwing crap out there that is way untrue and misleading the fans, please and thanks.
First & foremost they’ve gotta get the head shots out of the game & I’m not sure how this gets done, outside of a suspension. But you can’t completely protect QB’s on this. There are a fair amount of roughing the passer penalties & some of these, maybe the majority, are unintentional. You can’t completely legislate violent collisions out of what is a violent sport. In the case of Collaros the Riders wanted to walk away from Collaros, partly for the fact he can’t stay on the field, & Bridge. Also neither one of them had sparking efficiency ratings, quite… Read more »
Season over already… Couldn’t happen to a better fan base.
Ya whatever you say Klondike Mike. Without this fan base, this league would fold. So just think about that and while you’re at it, stay on your own teams blog, that is – if they have one!!
Hey Lare,
This is a sports a blog.

The game was on Thursday. That means they haven’t made a decision on what will happen with Lawrence in 4 days now. What the hell is going on with this League lately. Everyone knows how bad the hit was so why wasn’t the decision announced the next day? Here we wait and we wait and with my guess it will probably be a $500.00 fine and a slap on the ass and that’s it. This man’s future is in the air and by the looks of it “Who Cares” ? Good Luck Mr. Collaros I really hope things work out… Read more »
So what is the point of suspending Lawrence for 2 games, which he deserves. I would have suspended him for as long as Collaros is on the IR, so 6 games to start. But then in true CFL fashion, they give Lawrence 365 days to appeal his suspension. So what is he going to do. Appeal this and drag it out as long as possible and continue playing to a point in the schedule where it is convenient for Hamilton to lose him for 2 games. If your going to suspend a guy, suspend him and give him 48 hrs… Read more »
Two games is a sustantial penalty in an 18 game season. How many players gret suspended 10 games in an NHL season, which equates to this penalty in the shorter season? Hebert got the same. Is it just players targetting Zach or is it because the more concussions you have the likelier of reoccurrence? Last year there were numerous hits to the head but it appears to have bigger consequences for Zach because of his history of concussions. What nobody is saying is that maybe Zach should seriously consider quitting football. Pierce was another player who took awhile to see… Read more »
