A coupla three or more thoughts entering the weekend …

#1 – It’s been a week of shocking occurrences. In no particular order, but #1 on my list, is Shadeur Sanders being snubbed in the first round of the NFL Draft Thursday night.

We confirmed on Thursday that the draft status of the Colorado quarterback – and son of his dad/coach Deion Sanders – was the #1 story of the draft.

Going unpicked was on no one’s bingo card and will overshadow things the rest of the weekend. Shadeur made a statement after Round 1 saying this was unexpected, but it’s the way God wants it, so they’ll deal with it.

Can’t argue with that. And the kid faced a very humbling experience head-on.

#2 – The Florida Panthers jumping out to a 2-0 series lead with a pair of road wins at Tampa Bay was a shock too. What was growing animosity between the fanbases has turned into shellshock among Lightning fans.

Back in the day I was the one stoking the fire of these rivalries, but now I’m trying to bring fans together. Fights in the parking lot? Beer-fueled brawls? I was all for them in a past life.

Not anymore. And this feels better. But the Panthers steamrolling the Lightning took the air out of the Battle of Florida more than anything.

As for the Oilers being down 0-2 to L.A., please don’t be the one to say “You’re never in trouble till you lose at home.”

Edmonton is in A LOT of trouble.

#3 – The Blue Jays open a weekend series at the New York Yankees carrying a five game losing streak. They’re not in the territory yet of, “They are who we thought they were” but it feels like they’re getting close.

And #4 – Maybe it wasn’t shocking at all but new CFL Commissioner Stewart Johnston held his first news conference on Thursday and informed the masses that expansion is not on his radar as new Commissioner.

That seems like a *180* from his predecessor Randy Ambrosie. What else will be different?

Moving forward, Johnston said the CFL is in a strong position and the three pillars of his administration will be: Innovation, Community and Entertainment.

It was a great start, and Commissioner Johnston will be on the RP Show today to discuss it more.

Have a great weekend.

These guys should call me for pre draft reports. There is a reason why these teams continue to circle the drain. Cam Ward – 22 yrs old. 3 NCAA teams in 4 yrs. “The U” is my team but this is not Bernie Cosar era believe me he was playing against. Travis Hunter to Jacksonville. Look him up. He will be on the 30 for 30 Broke sequel. The smart money should have gone to trading the top picks for later picks and depth. Jimmy Johnson was not running the draft war rooms that’s for sure. 2) CFL – this… Read more »

Shadeur Sanders. It doesn’t matter who it is. I will say this is an example of 32 NFL teams wanting no part of his father. Coach Prime showing up to practice. There isn’t one NFL Head Coach that has the brass to go nose to nose with him. The entire organization would follow him. The one that could do it is at North Carolina. This is also the reason why the SEC will do all it can to ensure he only has Mississippi State as his next employment option. Florida in the SEC. Florida St and Miami in the ACC… Read more »

#3 The talking heads, all afraid of offending someone keep saying “Trust the process”
Well guess what, the process ain’t working!
When it doesn’t matter who is in the lineup they’re all using pool noodles for bats something has to change.
When your media created superstar of the century is on pace for eight home runs maybe it’s time he got an earfull.
I’ll give you a clue, it starts at the top.
