Commentary: All About That Base(ball)

(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on All New Hits 98 & LTD Radio)
It’s Random Thoughts Wednesday! I always like this day of the week …
#1 – With the Blue Jays going to the World Series for the first time since 1993, it’s got a lot of us whom are old enough remembering what was going on in our lives back then.
I was living in P.A. at the time, and was Voice of the Raiders. I vividly recall CKOM Saskatoon’s Steve Chisholm covering the series live from Skydome and I was so envious! (Steve still has one of the best voices in broadcasting, IMO). Toronto seemed like the other side of the world back then, especially to a kid like me that had never been anywhere before.
Now all kinds of people from the 306 are heading to Hogtown to catch some games in this series. Many went last week for the ALCS. Our world sure has changed over the past 30 years.
#2 – We’re real lucky to have great friends in the baseball business, that we can call on for the real answers. I asked Gregg Zaun and Joe Girardi – both World Series champion catchers – if the Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani truly is the greatest of all-time. (Especially after his 10-strikeout, three homerun performance in the NLCS).
They both said no! They agree the greatest is still Babe Ruth.
Consider it like the Connor McDavid/Wayne Gretzky debate. McDavid is the best player right now, but the Great One is still the greatest player of all-time.
And #3 – Sad that the biggest story in the NFL this week is the public spat between Denver coach Sean Payton and his former quarterback Russell Wilson. It had to do with Payton’s comments about the Giants finally replacing “Mr. Unlimited” as their #1, and Wilson firing back about Payton’s bounty scandal history.
You’d think being in the NFL and Super Bowl champs would be enough to make people happy and above petty spats!
But you’d be wrong.
That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.

Rod, nice to mention the voice at CKOM. Brings me back to my Western Academy radio college in S’Toon. And the fact I was doing a little radio in Brandon during the Jays 2 series runs. What an exciting time to be young and “in” the industry. Looking forward to the next step. Stackhouse, loved the US comment. Been through Emerson numerous times in NCAA / NHL / NFL weekend trips to see my Bikes, whatever NHL game was going on and to see some Gopher / St. Cloud hockey (great small university barn, great atmosphere). You can’t beat that… Read more »
