COMMENTARY: ALS FAN NOW

(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98 & Rock 98.5 FM)

Here are a coupla thoughts to take you into the weekend.

What a wild week it was!

Coming out of All Star Weekend, the NHL hockey has been fantastic. That is, unless you’re the Calgary Flames.

They’re winless on this eastern trip and lost 2-1 to the lowly Red Wings in Detroit last night. They are not in a playoff spot and it feels like they’re fading.

It seems like coach Darryl Sutter has done all he can do and it’s really up to the players now, like it always is.

But if I was GM Brad Treliving, I’d make some type of move to shake things up. The Oilers did it last year with a coaching change, and then adding controversial winger Evander Kane. It propelled them to the Conference Final.

Nobody’s getting fired in Calgary. But lobbing a firecracker into the dressing room wouldn’t be such a bad idea.

Meanwhile this Q-B carousel in the CFL is a little silly but it is what it is. When the season kicks off in June, Bo Levi Mitchell will lead Hamilton, Trevor Harris will quarterback Saskatchewan and now Cody Fajardo will be under centre for Montreal.

Those are three guys who’ve been spurned by their former clubs and will have plenty of motivation to stick it to ‘em. That makes for must-see TV.

I’ve never spent one day of my life cheering for the Montreal Alouettes but I’m about to start, and Cody Fajardo’s going to realize that a fresh start can be a wonderful thing.

And lastly, it’s Super Bowl Weekend. In this case Kansas City meets Philadelphia in Super Bowl 57 in Glendale, AZ (kickoff Sunday at 5:30 pm CT).

It’s the closest moneyline of all-time – Eagles by 1.5 at Bet Regal – but I’m going with Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs.

Watch it with us at our Super Bowl Watch Party at the Four Seasons Sports Palace on Sunday.

The good times are here again.

Don’t let ‘em pass you by.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary

I wish Cody much success, except when he plays us. It’s hard to fathom how Cody and Jason Maas will win many games in Montreal when they couldn’t do it here.

You can’t possibly be watching games. Montreal is a very good team and was heading in the right direction. Playing in that marker will better for him. He is way to thin skinned, sensitive and frankly mentally weak to carry on here. An Eastern team is exactly what he needs. Montreal is set up for success. Trevor Harris I have always liked. I applaud him for taking the money. If he is smart he will go on injured reserve early. The O line of the Roughriders was beyond horrific so he needs to save his health. I encourage people to… Read more »

Cody was a nice guy and football is a business. Gone are the days of keeping players long term unless you win and win now lots.Otherwise,it’s money and opportunity for both sides. You people that got sucked in to the belief that Cody was the saviour in 2019 are hilarious and annoying now too.Quit it!! 2019 the Riders had a decent oline. In fact probably one of the best. But if you remember ! Cody ran lots ! And when he did mix it up and throw it was mostly slants and the odd intermediate that barely got to the receiver.… Read more »

Roy Shivers believed our problems were 90+ years of franchise systemic racism. So he goes and hires Danny Barrett and the roster/community engagement would have been great if we were rechristened the Mogadishu Roughriders. The only thing missing were Somali pirate ships. I think his thinking was Nealon Greene and Marcus Crandell would lead to the promised land. How’d that all work out? Fast forward we get Mr. Jesus Sprinkles. Well if you’re up on Full Metal Jacket dialogue you’re heart can belong to Jesus, but make no mistake you’re a$$ belongs to the corps. In this case the franchise,… Read more »

Well Rod I think you are right for motivation in the QB position especially for Cody. But I think it will be the eagles and their defence will prevail. But I have been wrong before!!

This whole CFL thing concerning the quarterback carousel reminds me of kids picking teams on the playground. So now who gets Evans?
