I love the CFL!

Week 9 kicks off tonight with a game voted by RP Show viewers as Canada’s Game of the Week: the 5-2 BC Lions at the 2-6 Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Coincidentally we have a 4-game homestand opening tonight with the Moose Jaw Miller Express, but I’m hoping to catch as much CFL action this weekend as possible!

Thank goodness for streaming.

Of course the weekly CFL Game Notes are always tantalizing and can really get you geeked up for the games.

How ‘bout this one: With a league-leading 2,395 yards passing in seven games, BC quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. is on pace to become just the fifth quarterback in CFL history to throw for over 6,000 yards.

Can you name the other four?

I’ll give you a minute …

They are Doug Flutie, Kent Austin, David Archer and Anthony Calvillo.

Can you imagine the conundrum the Lions would be in if they tried to sign Nathan Rourke after his NFL tryouts? And they had to bench VA or trade him?

A topic for another day.

I dunno. Sometimes it feels like digesting the Game Notes is akin to drinking from a firehose.

There’s a lot of quality information there, trying to fit into my pee brain.

For the bettors, you may wanna know that home teams are 22-10 so far this season which is an all-time record. It’ll be interesting to see if that continues; particularly tonight at The ‘Peg.

And you Rider Priders may be interested to know that Saskatchewan’s defense is giving up not only a league-low 48 rushing yards per game, but that’s also the lowest in league history!

Not surprisingly, the Riders rookie head coach Corey Mace is a former defensive lineman in the NFL & CFL.

Teams take on the personality of their coach.

Always have, always will.

Meanwhile the 5-2 Riders are favoured by 5.5-points against the lowly 0-7 Edmonton Elks Saturday at Mosaic Stadium.

You can call it … the biggest trap game of all-time

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.
