It’s Random Thoughts Wednesday! Here we go:

#1 – There’s just no stopping the Blue Jays! They whalloped the White Sox 6-1 in Chicago in a rain-shortened game Tuesday night for their 10th straight victory. That’s now a club record for wins before the All Star Break with no signs of slowing down.

#2 – Blue Jays TV host Jamie Campbell was on the RP Show Tuesday and said he expects the Jays to be VERY active leading up to the trade deadline. But more importantly, Jamie revealed that his trip through Alberta last summer touring WCBL ballparks with his son Jack was so much fun that he’s coming back out west beginning Thursday at Weyburn’s Tom Laing Park and Saturday at the Berry Patch in Saskatoon! It’d be great to host him here in Moose Jaw, but you can’t have everything.

#3 – The topic of major junior hockey players bolting for big money in the NCAA is a bigger one than we have time for here. As my hockey co-horts and I have realized, very few people understand what this means to hockey in Canada and even fewer care. But that doesn’t make it any less alarming.

The latest is Medicine Hat Tigers star Gavin McKenna – the presumptive #1 pick in next year’s NHL Draft – jumping from the Dub to Penn State.

What’s the most intriguing is watching the pundits scramble to window-dress this situation, and minimize it.

Let’s just go with it for now …

And #4 – Talk about damned if you do, and damned if you don’t. Having made up with the Riders this spring, I can now comfortably say they’re the best team in the CFL. (It’s not hard; they’re the only unbeaten team at 4-0).

When I was critical of them over the past seven seasons, the diehards said, “Oh it’s just sour grapes!” or “Get over it!”

Now I’m shouting from the mountain tops that “It’s the Riders and then everybody else.”

Those same people are now saying, “You’re going to jinx us!” while fans across the league have dusted off the dreaded “Homer” label.

Can’t win.

Baseball is such a great game. Metaphors for life galor. Roughriders are a legit wagon. The only barrier in this marathon will be attrition through injuries. Logan Ferland and his adaptability. The Dads out there must buy a ticket then park sons to watch every snap that young guy plays. That is a football player. Jaxon Ford….when he eventually starts……born to play CFL. As for going to NCAA. What’s “education”. Going to worthless “university” or riding the bus and getting a day after day experience with Willie Desjardins. Add in just the fact a player gets the privilege to even… Read more »
