A coupla three or so thoughts headed into the weekend …

#1 – Bravo to the Western Hockey League for making neckguards mandatory and definitely long overdue. There are always critics of course and some are wondering why the Junior A leagues haven’t followed suit?

Hey Einsteins – money’s tighter in these leagues than anywhere else. If a generous sponsor was willing to step up and pay for them, I guarantee the teams would gladly accept them and you’d look like a real swell guy.

As for there being a criminal investigation into the Adam Johnson injury which took the young man’s life on the weekend (due to a skateblade to the neck), I totally get it but still find it ridiculous. There’s never any intent for this to happen.

#2 – I’ve often said there’s a special place in heaven reserved for coaches. Especially these days. The Oilers lost 4-3 to Dallas last night in their first game since the Heritage Classic. Turns out beating Calgary wasn’t all that special, as the Flames have now lost six in a row themselves.

You’ll notice that unlike other media or fans, you won’t catch me saying ‘the coaches need to do this’ or ‘do that’ because I simply don’t know the right buttons to push.

However that doesn’t stop you, I know.

I deal with young people in my Recovery Coaching business (Mental Health & Addictions) all the time but that’s far easier. The regular phrase there is “If you keep doing this, you will die!”

You should see their face upon hearing that.

Still, I enjoy comparing notes with the coaches from the various sports leagues as we’re always learning, trying to stay on top of the trends.

And #3 – On this CFL Division Semifinal weekend, I’ll take Hamilton and Calgary to advance, even though I’m cheering for Cody Fajardo and Montreal.

In the preseason I selected the Stampeders and Tiger-Cats to meet in the Grey Cup so there’s no point changing now.

Let the playoffs begin!

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary

This Blog since 2007 has been a great thing and allowed me to heal and get off my chest what is on it. I’ve noticed we’re all evolving and growing with perspective. 1) Did this guy get up in the morning intent on “killing” someone? The answer is no. Having said that we need context. Does anyone know the British Hockey League? (BHL). I do. It is is on the same level – exact same level as “D” Division Adult Safe Hockey, but for washed up NHL’ers, Never Was, Has Been, and kids who want to take a couple years… Read more »

I recently sent the Regina NDP Caucus an email asking a few simple questions. Typical response back. They are doing the 2007 SaskParty playbook of pull in the patient of the week, exploit scumbags in tents, and now the recent evicted person in a carehome of the week. I asked: Seniors being evicted from Care Homes People dropping dead from addiction “Unhoused” people dropping dead in the cold and living in tents Violence on these reserves etc. “If you keep doing this you’ll die” – sure. With that in mind if we spend money or offer to help where it’s… Read more »

Obama, I warned you on another comment. Constant drinking ends up with posts like you just wrote here. Look in the mirror.

$30 is one less trip to the LBS for a 6 pack. Cut out one of those trips per player and they can buy their own neck guard. It is their life not Boltboys. Its a no brainer to wear their own neck guard they purchased. Or charge one dollar more per spectator at once game for an SJHL game and they can again buy their own. I have a few more ideas, do you want them??
