Commentary: CFL, Oilers & Soccer

There are just too many things going on this week that I gotta roll them all into more random thoughts! Here we go …

#1 – For whatever reason, it’s always special when the Roughriders and Alouettes get together. Especially in Montreal, like tonight as the two teams kickoff Week 8 in the CFL.

The national media’s calling this a “marquee game” but it’s not. Moreso it’s the “Battle of the Back-ups” as Montreal’s Caleb Evans faces Saskatchewan’s Shea Patterson.

Cody Fajardo versus Trevor Harris would be much more salacious.

It’s also a battle of the top two defenses in the league.

I’ve got the Riders to win a low scoring affair.

#2 – For whatever reason, the weekly Game Notes from the CFL were lacking but there were still a few interesting factoids. Home teams are 19-9 this season which represents the highest winning percentage this late in the season in CFL history!

No idea why that is. Also, 75% of the games have been decided in the last 3:00 and the average margin of victory remains just eight points, which is also a league all-time low.

Don’t look now, but this is the most entertaining season of CFL football ever.

And the Ottawa RedBlacks are off to a their best start in franchise history! But at 4-2, that’s not saying much.

They’ll look to go to 5-2 Friday when they host Calgary.

#3 – The Cancel Culture mob was out in full force on Wednesday, when the Edmonton Oilers announced the hiring of Stan Bowman as their new GM. Scotty’s son has been out of hockey since being forced out in Chicago for his mishandling of the sexual abuse scandal involving an assistant coach a decade ago.

There are many, MANY, people who feel Bowman shouldn’t be allowed to work in hockey again but thankfully they’re not in charge. Bowman lost his job, spent three years in the penalty box, and was reinstated by Commissioner Gary Bettman on July 1. That’s how the justice system works; commit the crime, do the time, then get set free.

Bowman also profusely apologized at his news conference Wednesday for botching the situation with the Blackhawks, and has undergone the appropriate training since.

In a lot of cases we should not have to pay for our mistakes for the rest of our life and thankfully the powers-that-be see it the same way.

Feels like the pendulum’s finally swinging back doesn’t it?

#4 – I watched with interest the interview with Canadian womens soccer coach Bev Priestman leading into their Olympics opener tonight. She won’t coach the game after voluntarily stepping down for two matches after members of her staff were caught filming the opposition’s practice via drones last week.

Bev was asked if she knew this was going on.

She didn’t answer the question.

And now she’s been allowed to discipline herself by self-imposing a two game suspension in order to “display leadership and protect the integrity of the sport.”

The Olympics haven’t even started, and I’m already turned off.

How do these people and their apologists even look themselves in the mirror?

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.

People are slow on the uptake but they eventually they catch up to me. Cancel Culture no longer exists if it ever did. What has been cancelled are the Narcissitic Losers who do not buy tickets whose only goal is to create a societal victim/bully mentality – it’s their subversive way of control. There’s 2 ways you can go. 1st – Edmonton is all in going for a Stanley Cup. Anyone not interested is welcome to put their season tickets up for sale, they are also more than welcome to not renew the business suites and explain to their clients… Read more »

The soccer coach should be sent home and fired. Either she’s in on it and directed her underling to do it, or she’s too stupid to know what’s going on around her. Either is a fireable offence.

Suspend yourself? What a joke. Like my kid admitting to the little thing he did wrong hoping I’ll look past the big things he did wrong. Accountability, my arse.

Canadian Head Coach Bev Priestman is married to Emma Humphries a former midfielder with the New Zealand team.

…..as I’ve been stating. – when you send your biological female kid into Hockey, Soccer, Softbal, Rugby….don’t be shocked if she comes out with a new wife.

When the Coach is marrying the Player or the Team Captain is marrying the Rookie?

At what point does mainstream media quit being some kind of virtue signal allie and call out that maybe perhaps just maybe members of the alphabet police just could be Sociopaths.

Buddy, Different strokes for different folks. Here’s where the D.E.I – Didn’t Earn It hires get dicey. When you hear of mainstream media cuts and layoffs – rejoice. They are absolute liars. Compare this with the Trump inside hit job. – there is video of the guy climbing up the building. Video of Secret Service admitting they did not secure high spots. A “sloped roof” was wheel chair accessible. That kid got off 8 rounds before they took him out. D.E.I hires means a 6’2 ex President gets guarded by 5’2 females that you can see on cell phone cameras… Read more »
