A coupla three or so thoughts entering the weekend …

#1 – Can’t remember when I’ve enjoyed an interview as much as I did this week with former Blackhawks & Panthers GM Dale Tallon. He joined our Cats ‘N Bolts Podcast in Boca Raton which covers Florida NHL hockey and we discussed absolutely everything including Bobrovsky, Bedard, Boca and more.

When he said his mom’s from Montmartre, SK, I almost fell off my chair! The South Florida hockey community is tiny. Minuscule in fact. Weyburn’s is probably bigger! But they’re loyal and I’m so glad they’ve welcomed me in.

#2 – History will be made tonight in Pennsylvania where my niece Sydney Pedersen will provide the color commentary for the NCAA mens hockey game featuring her school, Mercyhurst. Syd The Kid actually plays for the NCAA womens team there, but is filling in on the mens broadcast and will now mark two generations of Pedersens in the broadcast booth. She actually makes three generations of our family involved in the game and you can bet the Old Guy will be tuned in from somewhere.

Ironically, I’ll be attending the Pittsburgh Penguins/Florida Panthers game here in Sunrise tonight and watching the “other” Sid The Kid play live. But you can bet I’ll have my earplug in in the press box.

#3 – It’s great to catch up with some old friends who are in town with the CKRM sports trip which is in South Florida. It’s been awesome to catch up but it certainly illustrated to me how things have changed since we started that trip (and that show) over a decade ago.

They remain clad in green while we’re now immersed in the Florida hockey community and tackling the exciting next chapter.

And all are happy.

I read somewhere that’s the way life’s supposed to go!

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary
