Commentary: Dirty Business

(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on the All New Hits 98 CKHD & LTD Radio)

It’s Random Thoughts Day on this commentary and today we’ve got lots!

#1 – The Olympics haven’t even started yet and we already have a scandal. Canadian womens soccer coach Bev Priestman says she’ll voluntarily miss the team’s first two games after members of her staff were caught filming Team New Zealand’s practice – TWICE! – via drones.

I’ll tell you what – don’t think for a second Priestman didn’t know this was going on. In fact I’m certain she orchestrated the whole thing. This team has been the darlings of the Canadian sports and media landscape for quite some time.

Are they going to get a pass, or get cancelled?

Can’t wait to find out, but now their gold medal in 2020 is being questioned. Way to go!

#2 – This story is emerging so we haven’t seen the fallout, if any, yet. But I’ve had many friends compete, coach, and officiate at the Olympics and they’ve relayed that this is the dirtiest business they’ve ever seen.

Sorry to spill the beans! Frankly I’m embarrassed that it’s Canada. Are you?

#3 – The pressure to win is so immense, and the rewards so rich once you do, that cheating is commonplace across sports at all levels.

There’s a saying in sports: “If you ain’t cheating, you ain’t trying.”

But if you’re going to spy on the opposition (like Don Matthews and Bill Belichick did), be smart enough not to get caught!

#4 – NFL training camps are open and the USA Today’s yearly prediction has the New York Jets winning the Super Bowl!

I suggest senior football writer Nate Davis be submitted for a drug test.

Kidding of course, and I look forward to Nate’s predictions every year.

Then I always forget to go back and see if he was right.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.

(The Rod Pedersen Show airs daily at 12 pm & 4 pm ET on Game+TV, WQEE Radio, Podcast & YouTube Live)

Canadian Women’s soccer will get a pass. This will be buried in the news cycle in no less than 36 hours. If anything they have a built in excuse courtesy of the NDP/Trudeau 9 year regime. It was the root cause male patriarchy that didn’t give them the resources to compete on an equal level. Through shear resilience they are to be celebrated for their creativity. As we have been indoctrinated – all women are to be believed they never “cheat”. Random: When you go to drain the swamp expect to take a bullet for democracy or at least get… Read more »
