Just a couple thoughts headed into the weekend …

#1 – We’ll find out tonight quite a few things. Firstly, the Stanley Cup-winner could be determined as the Florida Panthers visit the Edmonton Oilers with a 3-2 series lead.

However should Edmonton win, the series would go back to Florida for Game 7 on Monday.

We could also find out if all of Canada is gripped by the sudden drama in this series, or if they’ve tuned out and gone about their summer.

TV ratings used to be readily available and could tell us that, but now you rarely hear about them and I wouldn’t know where to look to find them.

But instead of railing on how great things used to be, that voice in my head – the one that’s never wrong – said recently “Just go with it.”

So I do. With everything.

#2 – I don’t apologize for the fact I’ll be happy if either team wins. Oiler fans are the ones I grew up with, while Panthers fans are my friends now. (Oddly, they’ve gotten really quiet the past few days).

Count yourself blessed if the biggest worry in your life is the fortunes of your favourite sports team.

I’ve spent the week helping a fellow Board member of Sober Bowl, whose husband was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer shortly after the Las Vegas Super Bowl and now this year’s event in New Orleans is in question.

That’s the way it goes as a licensed Mental Health Coach, with a specialty in Grief, Trauma & Stress.

I was able to tell her to take care of him, and we’ll handle the rest as best we can for this year’s Super Bowl.

The silver lining of all the crap I’ve been through is to now know how to help others going through their own personal crises. Some really great people helped me when I needed it most.

The Stanley Cup Final – and sports in general – is not life and death.

It may feel that way sometimes, but don’t be fooled.

It’s not.
