Commentary: Fireworks

Hope you had a great Canada Day! It’s time for some Random Thoughts:

#1 – We had our biggest crowd of the year at Ross Wells Park on Canada Day, to watch the visiting Swift Current 57’s bomb the hometown Miller Express 13-2. Kudos to the fans – they stayed right to the end. It was a fun night with fireworks on, and off, the field.

This is where attendance took off last year, across the entire WCBL. Reigning league MVP Carter Beck and the Saskatoon Berries visit the Ross on Friday.

#2 – Not even clicking on the stories I’m seeing today about Leafs fans unleashing their anger on Mitch Marner after he fled Toronto for the Vegas Golden Knights in free agency. No wonder the kid wanted out of there!

Who wins a Cup first: Marner and the Knights, or the Toronto Maple Leafs?

I feel silly even asking it.

#3 – It’s Week 5 of the CFL season and I’m already tired of seeing Michael Ball and CFL On TSN’s Luke Willson fighting on Twitter.

I honestly didn’t know Twitter wars were still a thing.

#4 – Someone who’s constantly at war with others is secretly at war with themself. Been there, and am glad those days are long over.

#5 – And how bout those Blue Jays? They’ve won the first two games of a 4-game set with the Yankees at Rogers Centre and crept to within a game of New York for first place in the AL East.

A win tonight and tomorrow over the Pinstripes will give them first place in the division in July!

Months ago I’d mentioned the abundantly positive vibe around the Jays at their spring training facility in Dunedin.

I didn’t think it would last long.

But I’m also not afraid to admit when I’m wrong.
