It’s Tuesday and time for the Good, the Great & the Ugly!

First the good: The future of the NHL is very bright.

A couple of youngsters figured prominently in their team’s wins on Monday as Montreal’s Lane Hutson – in a 2-1 win over Anaheim – extended his point streak to seven games.

That’s the longest streak for a rookie Habs defenceman in team history! Just a reminder, they’ve had a few go through there.

This year’s Calder Trophy winner?

Meanwhile Connor Bedard set up the game-winner for Chicago in a 2-1 victory over the New York Rangers. Connor needs one more point to hit 50 in a calendar year and then he’ll become just the fourth Blackhawks teen to do that. The others? Only Bobby Hull, Eddie Olzcyk and Patrick Kane.

Next the great: It’s been a year since Hall of Fame Rider broadcaster John “Frenzy” Lynch passed and as you know, there will never be another.

But my new friend Scott Morganroth – publisher of the South Florida Tribune and host of The Sports Exchange show – is a Frenzy clone.

I go on his shows and he comes on mine, and the similarities are uncanny. A hall of fame career, a blustery demeanour, and a real handful to try to keep a lid on!

RP Show viewers are really enjoying the guy I call “America’s John Frenzy” and Scott seems to really like it too.

Even if he has no idea who I’m talking about!

That’s just great, and makes me feel like I’m around Frenzy again.

And finally the ugly: Take your pick – the New York Rangers or Dallas Cowboys.

Both lost last night in prime time but let’s go with the Rangers because we’ve long known the Cowboys are a greasefire.

The Blueshirts sent captain Jacob Trouba out of town on Friday because, we’re told, he couldn’t or wouldn’t play coach Pete Laviollette’s system.

Others are on the trading block too, we’re told.

New York’s disguised their warts by being a pretty good team over the years, even making it to the Eastern Conference Final last year before bowing out to Florida.

But don’t let “pretty good” fool you, as a mask for dysfunction.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.
