Commentary: Good News, Bad News

A coupla three or more thoughts entering a busy weekend …
#1 – The Blue Bombers visit the Roughriders in what is best termed a “CFL Pick ‘Em” game. (The winner is anybody’s guess, but Winnipeg is actually favoured by 4 at Northstar Bets).
I struggled so much with picking a winner that I enlisted help from an impartial source; a football buddy of mine at home in Florida who watches all the CFL games.
His pick?: Bombers.
#2 – CFL all-time wins leader Wally Buono got tongues wagging on Thursday by saying the first thing he’d do, if named Commissioner for a day, is expand to the USA.
Predictably, the Canadian football world is now on fire.
When I saw the Tweet, my stomach turned and my heart sank. Why? Because I’ve only been saying this for a couple decades and am past even wanting to follow the fallout of Wally’s comments.
Besides – the CFL doesn’t want to expand anyway so the whole exercise is a waste of time.
#3 – The good news is that we’re at a point in the WCBL season where every game is a big one. The bad news is the Moose Jaw Millers have lost four in a row including a 4-3 setback at Okotoks last night.
But the kids are hopeful!
One Millers player from California cheerfully said to me this week, “We’re gonna make it worth your while for coming to Moose Jaw this summer and broadcasting our games, by winning it all and getting big shiny rings!”
I smiled and said …
“You already have, son.”
And #4 – We’ll be on the highway right after today’s RP Show, bound for Alberta and Saturday’s WCBL All Star Game & Homerun Derby in Okotoks presented by S.R. Bats.
The Texas company has all their bigshots up for the weekend and we’ve been asked to enjoy tonight’s Millers-Dawgs game from a suite at glitzy Seaman Stadium.
The faces change, but the game doesn’t.

Start with the GREAT. Did anyone catch the 2024 RNC? For President Trump to be introduced by UFC’s Dana White….and then to be “put over” by Terry Bollea aka Hulk Hogan….2 things were apparent. The Saskatchewan Roughriders are who we thought they are. When it comes down to Zach Collaros vs the #1 USFL pick When it comes down to CEO Kyle Walters vs CEO Craig Reynolds When it comes down to GM Wade Miller vs GM Jeremy O’Day ….the only thing this game has going for it. The Riders are wearing puke green uniforms. It’s 30C out at game time and it’s a full moon. My guess is the fan base will start drinking at noon to make it bearable.
