COMMENTARY – HAVE IT ALL

It’s okay to enjoy it all, and that’s exactly what we’re going to do.
The 2023 NFL season kicks off Thursday night with an intriguing battle; the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs home to the upstart Detroit Lions. The Chiefs are favoured by 4 ½ points at our official betting partner Bet Regal.
It’s an interesting match-up by the NFL schedule makers. No surprise that the defending Super Bowl champs would open at home in prime time but for some reason Dan Campbell’s Lions are the sexy pick as the NFL’s hottest up-and-comer.
They didn’t even make the playoffs last year, but they reside in perhaps the most wide open division (NFC North) in the NFL so tonight’s their chance to get off on the right foot.
Storylines abound across Week 1.
Somebody called this the greatest football weekend of the year and it probably is, depending on your tastes.
The back-end of the CFL Labour Day Classic Weekend has some great match-ups, even if they’re not all home-and-home sets.
Do you ever recall a bigger firestorm coming out of the Riders/Bombers rivalry than this week, with Saskatchewan D-lineman Pete Robertson getting suspended a game for headbutting Winnipeg quarterback Zach Collaros in the Labour Day Classic?
I cannot. Although my memory’s starting to falter, which may have something to do with preferring to look forward rather than in the rearview mirror.
Speaking of, it appears star quarterback Kurtis Rourke will indeed suit up for the Ohio Bobcats this Saturday night against the FAU Owls here in Boca Raton.
The Oakville, ON product and little brother of star Nathan Rourke missed the past game-and-a-half for Ohio with a leg injury but he’s been tabbed to start this one. FAU Stadium’s going to be packed with NFL & CFL personnel, and a lot more fans than last week’s opener where Tom Herman won his Owls debut, 42-40 over Monmouth U.
You can definitely have it all.

2018. Playoff game at Mosaic….Jeffcoat slams Bridge with a forearm, giving him a concussion and knocking Bridge out of the game. No penalty, no Review, no suspension…….
Oh, the result? Rider loss, and CFL implements an Official in offensive backfield with ONE responsibility: watch the quarterbacks!!
No firestorm apparently because Riders out Bombers move on…….
I’m not suggesting for one SECOND that Robertson should not have been penalized and suspended. But there’s no comparison, Jeffcoat’s head smash during the play way worse………short memory on those Bombers…….
