COMMENTARY: IDLE HANDS
(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on the All New Hits 98 CKHD & LTD Radio)
The Monday commentary is meant to be a wrap of the sporting weekend and what a weekend it was …
#1 – Jennifer Jones said a reluctant good-bye to womens curling Sunday night after falling 5-4 to Rachel Homan in the Scotties final in Calgary.
Had she won, she’d have surpassed Colleen Jones with a record seventh Canadian womens curling championship but instead she’s walking away at age 49 with nothing left to prove.
I wince when they say she’s Canada’s Queen of Hearts because if you’re from Sask, you know there’s only one.
Speaking of Sask, kudos to the people of Sandra Schmirler’s home province for raising over $6.1-million in Telemiracle 48!
That was fun to watch and be a part of too.
#2 – The hockey was great over the weekend, particularly on Sunday where Patrick Kane returned to Chicago and spoiled Chris Chelios’s jersey retirement night, by scoring in overtime to lift the Detroit Red Wings to a 3-2 victory.
Not long after Chelly’s #7 went to the rafters on Sunday, Kane was honoured with a tribute video for his time in Chicago, winning three Stanley Cups and re-writing the record book.
It caused the announcers to wonder on the broadcast, “Why did he have to go?”
But as we’ve said many times, when it’s time to go, it’s time to go. And there’s nothing worse than overstaying.
And #3 – We gotta get back to playing football. Even if it’s just practice.
Have you noticed? The NFL off-season is only a couple weeks old but we already got guys getting into trouble. Seahawks legend Richard Sherman was reportedly picked up for DUI over the weekend while Panthers great Cam Newton was videotaped in a scuffle in Atlanta.
You can set your watch by it – when guys aren’t on the field or in the gym, that’s when the trouble starts.
Idle hands are the devil’s workshop.
