Commentary: Longnecks & Short Stories

(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on the All New Hits 98 CKHD & LTD Radio)
It feels like a Random Thoughts kinda day on this Commentary. Let’s hear ‘em:
#1 – Week 4 in the CFL kicks off tonight with Edmonton at Winnipeg. The talk across the CFL so far has largely been about horrific attendance in most markets but it says here if everybody complaining actually bought a ticket, there would be no problems at all. The Riders host BC on Saturday, and it’s looking like it’ll be a good crowd.
#2 – Having said that, I’ll be declining the Rider game to attend the Mark Chesnutt concert at Moose Jaw’s Temple Gardens Centre Saturday night. Hey – the Riders will always be there, but I’ve never seen Chesnutt before. And he’s one of my faves …
#3 – Behind the scenes we are starting to see the effects of hiring someone, and putting them in a big position long before they’re ready. Soon, you’ll see the effects of it too. Things are slowly getting back to order.
#4 – Speaking of, it took 17 tries but Alex Mogilny finally got announced to the Hockey Hall of Fame this week. But he’s not the story. Zdeno Chara, Joe Thornton and the rest of this year’s class are. But with Jeremy Roenick going in last year, that leaves, really, only Theoren Fleury as the last one being snubbed.
Do we live to see Theo get inducted in our lifetime?
#5 – Hurting people hurt people. Don’t ever forget that.
And #6 – The Blue Jays and Guardians play the rubber match of their midweek series today in Cleveland. Don’t look now, but the Jays are in a wildcard spot.
Baseball is so cool!
And it’s cool at the WCBL level too. Come check it out for yourself on Canada Day when the Miller Express host the Swift Current 57’s in a 6:05 pm start at Ross Wells Park.
You won’t be disappointed.

If they can let Chara and Thornton in, they’ve lowered the bar so much that Fleury might as well be put in too!
When I saw the headline – my thinking was “ahhh I so miss Mark Chestnutt”. I had that tape and a few others. Who would have ever thought the lyrics; to hot to fish/to hot for golf/to cold at home would happen to people. He was a good one. Regarding Theo Fleury. It’s a merit deal. I’ll say it again, Theo hasn’t said one thing that wasn’t true. Theo Fleury/Dale Hunter/Rod Brind’Amour/Keith Tchuck with Mike Keenan behind the bench. Mike Keenan’s resume speaks for itself and he fundamentally changed training habits and off ice preparation. Mike Keeanan was a highly… Read more »
