Sorry/not sorry for taking up this space all week talking about the Toronto Blue Jays.

Hey, they’re headed to the World Series against the L.A. Dodgers with Game 1 Friday at Rogers Centre and it’s been a generation between World Series appearances for the Jays. For those who don’t know, it’s been since 1993 when the Jays won the second of back-to-back titles.

It’s provided a lot of fun fodder on the RP Show and got me looking up what was going on in the world back in 1993. Nobody does that kind of stuff anymore but I do, and love it so much.

There were federal elections in both Canada and the USA. Jean Chretien took over from Kim Campbell and Brian Mulroney on Parliament Hill while in Washington, Bill Clinton took over the Oval Office from George H. Bush.

Mrs. Doubtfire was #1 at the box office and the #1 song on the Billboard charts was Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You”. The show This Hour Has 22 Minutes premiered on the CBC.

In the sports world, the Sacramento Gold Miners were named the first-ever U.S. team in the CFL, and the City of Toronto was awarded an expansion team by the NBA. The Raptors would begin play in 1995.

1993 was also the first, and only year that both the World Series and Stanley Cup were won by Canadian teams.

Who’s going to take this World Series? It’s tough to break down right now because at the time of this writing, the Jays haven’t even named their Game 1 starter yet. The Dodgers named Blake Snell on Wednesday.

They say baseball is the thinking man’s game but you don’t need to be Einstein to see that LA is favored. They’ve got the #1 payroll in baseball and are the defending champs.

But the Blue Jays are in it. And for that reason, they’ve got a chance.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.

32 years since the Toronto Blue Jays 🇨🇦 made their last appearances in a MLB World Series_ long time. It’s exciting they are back in it against a favored power house Los Angeles Dodgers team, win or lose Go Blue Jays 🇨🇦 2025.
