COMMENTARY: MUELLER COMES HOME

It’s Tuesday and that means another edition of the Good, the Great & the Ugly!

First the good: I was pleasantly surprised to learn how much our audience took to our U.S. College Football discussion on Monday, and the snub of the Florida State Seminoles by the final four team selection committee. Honestly I didn’t realize that level of football was as popular with our demographic. Good to know.

I actually even heard from the Liberty Flames in Lynchburg, Virginia, who asked if we could get some of their players on the RP Show ahead of their Bowl appearance over the Holidays.

If you recall, last year at this time we broadcast live from the Boca Raton Bowl featuring Liberty & Toledo, with special guest Joey Jauch – a former Roughrideers receiver – of the Liberty broadcast crew.

We had to decline the Flames request but it’s good to know who you’re impacting, especially when you didn’t even know you were.

Next the great: Many in the Rider Nation are waking up to the news that Marc Mueller will be leaving the Calgary Stampeders to become Offensive Coordinator with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. A member of football’s Royal Family – the grandson of Ron Lancaster – Marc’s a Regina football star who’s a longtime friend and associate of new Roughriders head coach Corey Mace.

Marc coming home is just … great. We wish him much success in the next step of his football career.

And lastly, the ugly: Folks, it says here the divide between the media and teams will never go away. In fact it’s probably wider than it’s ever been and Saturday’s situation in Winnipeg is proof.

Jets owner Mark Chipman climbed aboard the Blackhawks bus and apologized to Connor Bedard for having to face a line of uncomfortable, inappropriate questioning from Winnipeg reporters about the Corey Perry rumour.

Classy of Mark, but it brought about predictable scorn from media members who say no apology was necessary and “Chip” doesn’t speak for them.

Sad, but predictable.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary

Wondering who will be on Sk.r coaching staff with Mace when next season starts., new qualified people one would hope. A total different approach would be highly appreciated.

The thing with the winnipeg owner is why people sign there. It is also why when then inevitable next wave of corporate media cuts occur nobody cares.
First off Cory perry is not the first and last guy to get hammered at the work party. Oh well. He lost his job. As for the rumor mongering the fact these people can even ask questions.
Eventually players will take the initiative to sign podcast agreements and put messaging out like Aaron Rodgers with pat McAfee.
These news outlets serve no purpose
