Stroke another item off the old Bucket List!

On Sunday we made the journey over to the Gulf Coast to watch the Toronto Blue Jays square off against the Boston Red Sox in Ft. Myers, FL, the spring training home of the Red Sox.

Watching the Jays in grapefruit league play is something I’ve wanted to do for a lifetime.

And on this Sunday it was “sort of” watching the Blue Jays. As is expected for an exhibition clash, only a handful of Jays regulars were in the lineup. Missing were my favourite Blue Jay – Vlady – as well as Bo Bichette, Cavan Biggio, George Springer and just about every other big name.

But we still got to see skipper John Schneider up close, thanks to seats which were just two rows behind the Jays dugout.

A big downer was the fact Toronto starting pitcher Alek Manoah scratched himself from the lineup, telling trainers he’s suffering from shoulder soreness.

“Aren’t we all?” asked one blue-haired fan as we poured into JetBlue Stadium.

And it was a decidedly “elderly” crowd on hand. But that shouldn’t be surprising; it’s Florida in the winter, and it’s baseball.

As far as the game goes, Nathan Hickey hit the go-ahead RBI single followed by a run of his own later in the eighth inning as the Red Sox handed the Jays their fourth straight pre-season loss, 3-1.

But catcher Alejandro Kirk homered for Toronto, and he’s who my partner came to watch so the day was a “win” for us.

And it later dawned on me that I gotta slow down on these Bucket List things-to-do.

What happens once you do ‘em all?
