Commentary: Old Dog, New Tricks

A coupla three or more thoughts entering the weekend …
#1 – To be honest, we never really talked about it here all season long but the feeling among Florida Panthers fans at the outset of the season was that if the team had been healthy in last year’s playoffs, they’d have won the Stanley Cup rather than lose in five games to Vegas in the Final.
And that this year, they’ve got a better team and it’s literally Cup or bust.
Well, after a 3-2 win over the Rangers last night in New York, the Panthers are a win away from reaching the Stanley Cup Final again, and facing either the Stars or Oilers.
Honestly I didn’t really believe the narrative but lo and behold, they’re oh-so-close to achieving it.
#2 – There’s a buzz in Rider Nation following Thursday night’s unveiling of the team’s third jersey for 2024, and alternate logo.
I’d give it a 7.5 out of 10! I’m not sure what they’re calling the shade of green but it’s catchy, and the logo is cool. A lot of thought goes into these things.
Although if they were going to do an alternate jersey, I’ll always be partial to black.
#3 – We didn’t set an attendance record last night in Saskatoon, but the Rattlers improved to 3-0 for the first time in franchise history with a 98-86 win over the visiting Vancouver Bandits.
The crowd was far from a league record but we’ve got all summer to do it and if there’s one thing I’ve learned, Sask likes to support a winner.
And #4 – It looks like a real nice night for baseball as the Moose Jaw Miller Express return from a road trip to play three-in-three at Ross Wells Park beginning Friday evening against Fort McMurray (first pitch 7:05 pm).
Many have asked how I like calling baseball since I’ve never done it before, and I’ve gotta say I like it a lot!
You’ve heard me say it before – you can teach an old dog new tricks if the old dog’s willing to learn.
