Well that was a Grey Cup for the ages!

They’re still cleaning up the confetti from the turf of Tim Hortons Field so it’s going to take awhile to process what actually went down in the 110th Grey Cup; the championship of the Canadian Football League.

But suffice it to say, it was one of the most remarkable storybook endings in CFL championship history, whatwith Montreal quarterback Cody Fajardo taking over the football in his own territory, down three points to Winnipeg, with under two minutes to go.

He and the Alouettes offense marched the ball downfield with remarkable precision and delivered a series of cold-blooded daggers to the heart of the brash Blue Bombers, capped by a Tyson Philpot TD reception from Fajardo to win it in the dying seconds.

Cue the confetti.

And all Winnipeg could do was sit in stunned silence and watch as the trophy they felt was theirs, was handed out to the other team. For a second straight year.

But the part that folks around here (Sask) will need to process is how the Roughriders not only let Fajardo and Montreal head coach Jason Maas get away, but the fact the team lit them on fire and kicked them out of town exactly a year ago.

You’ve gotta sit and consider the fact the Roughriders never won a game after Labour Day this year, for a second straight year, and went on to miss the playoffs. Again.

Obviously I’m having a bit of a tough time seeing this from others’ perspective because it’s been so clear to me for some time and it’s a drum I’ve been beating so much my arms are tired.

Do these people doing the back-patting of Fajardo and Maas today actually think those two were the problem in Riderville? I’ll give the people credit who’ve been taking their words back and eating crow since last night’s game.

It seems like they really did have the wool pulled over their eyes.

What might sting the most today is the realization Saskatchewan could’ve won a Grey Cup with Fajardo as their quarterback.

Still others were blowing up my phone well into the night with this realization and saying some accountability should be demanded in the Roughriders office today.

However on that I’ll quote famed philosopher Tanya Tucker:

It’s a little too late to do the right thing now.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary

In order to win Cody and company had to beat the Bombers and zebras.
The field should have been littered with yellow flags when Austin Mack made that one-hander. They would have been picked up but they definitely should have been thrown.
There’s also photo evidence that Winnipeg was offside for their goal line stand.

I never believed in Jason Maas/Cody Fajardo but then as time has gone by it is apparently clear we need to quit beating around the bush. It starts ands at the top and what gets flushed down the toilet becomes a systemic issue. Montreal was league owned with no resources. Danny Macioccia hadn’t been active in the CFL for many years and only was able to due free agency hours before it opened. Then as of today. Kyle Walter’s as a GM is a free agent. Quit pandering and we all need to say it. Craig Reynolds and Jeremy O’Day… Read more »

Mr. Donovan, so sorry to read that you are going through immense pain to your personal life as I too know pain living with colon cancer year five, most days are terrible rough but I will use your words for inspiration and respect the words of faith in what I have also been taught and know to be true. Thanks for your inspiring comment, and yes, both Craig Reynolds and Jeremy O’Day are incompetent to their respective hired roles with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, from a professional sports perspective that the whole franchise organization is operating in the wrong lane as… Read more »

Minor point of observation. Of the 4 Grey Cups in the Montreal era – they won number 2 & 3 versus Sakatchewan and for the 4th they won using Saskatchewan’s QB/Offensive Coordinator. Proof positive that some organizations are pure garbage. Bum Phillips the old Houston Oilers Head Coach…..Wade’s dad for the newbies. He said about Don Shula and Chuck Knoll. They can take win with theirs, flip it around and take yours and still win. Good luck to Mr. O’Day in as Mr. Reynolds has put it; “Find the next great Saskatchewan Roughriders Head Coach…..” mmm hmm…pull the other leg… Read more »

It’s never too late to recind both Craig Reynolds and Jeremy O’Day contracts as they are the problem with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Jeremy O’Day in some capacity or another going on near 25 plus years, sorry Riderville you won’t be winning any Grey Cups under the current management structure.

it sure has become obvious now where the problem was. It wasnt Maas, it wasnt Fajardo. It was Dickenson, ODay and Reynolds. All Dickey could say every week is the guys like being around each other…….well read between the lines what Fajardo said after the game. He said he has never been around a team as close as the Als, well that sure puts a halt on what Dickenson was saying.

Hopefully the Rider fans will show their disapproval for this joke of a management team and leave lots of seats empty again this coming year. If not, these clowns will think everything is all good and continue on taking your money. After all sports is just a business

Craig Reynolds, the guy that makes you want to puke is the guy that gave complete control to Chris Jones the guy that makes me want to puke.

Spider do you watch football even? Chris Jones is a winner as Grey Cup rings do not lie! He does not accept losing and will keep bringing in players until he finds ones that can play. Do you think Jones would have watched a whole year of Natay Rogers trying to play on the oline? When Jones first came here the Riders were crap like they are now and he built them into a winning organization. Soon as he leaves the Riders go down to where they are now a total embarrassment to the league. If the season was any… Read more »

I have to comment on the TSN telecast. They are awful, they are terrible. It starts with Suitor who’s shelf life is far from over. He needs to be let go. Then there is the sideline interviews and comments by Matt Scianatti (spelling??). That guy is a long winded doufus who rambles on and on about nothing while interrupting the flow of the game. That has to STOP!! Then there is the same post game interviews by the same Matt. That guy has the stupidest questions I have ever heard. He needs to quit that line of work as he… Read more »

Just as an aside. One of the best things about Tanya Tucker the kids out there may not know. First – go find the album vinyl record cover and inside for when she decided to go “pop”. Every guy (remember those?) – had that tucked under the mattress. So along with Suzanne Somers/Three’s Company and Heather Thomas/Fall Guy – we were set. The other great thing is when that album came out she was wild 22 years old and “dating” 42 year old Glen Rhinestone Cowboy Campbell. – they drank, fought, bunch of other fun stuff alcoholics/addicts do and it… Read more »

I sure enjoyed the game despite the distractions (logos, interviews, calls) and was worried the Als would not recover from some of the setbacks but character won out. I was especially happy for Cody but also to a lesser extent for Maas. One thing however which is rarely mentioned as a factor in these men overcoming the odds was the fact that they had AC in the background, a man with proven Greycup experience and a long running success at QB. In the end the entire team deserved full credit for the win.

Hopefully Mr. Pedersen keeps your 2 clowns picture cap and reminds us fans from time to time these are the clowns running the Saskatchewan Roughriders clusterF.
