Commentary: Rage Against The Machine

Today some general sports musings coming out of the weekend:
First, they’re howling in Edmonton today as the Oilers are down 2-1 in games to Vancouver in that second round Stanley Cup Playoff series.
The Canucks won Sunday night, 4-3, in a game where Oilers goalie Stuart Skinner was lifted after 40 minutes.
That’s what they’re howling about, but they’re conveniently forgetting a couple of things: They’re being beaten by a third string goalie, they’re being outcoached by Vancouver’s Rick Tocchet, and the golden boy Connor McDavid had a stat-line of 0-0-0 for a second time in this series.
They’re only blaming Skinner because it’s easy.
Second, beleaguered Jays pitcher Alek Manoah had his best start of the season but Toronto lost 5-1 to the Twins Sunday at Rogers Centre.
We only pay attention to the Jays when they’re winning and this year, they’re not.
And third, the Toronto Argonauts are getting a harsh lesson which I thought they’d know by now.
It’s called, loosely, “The Golden Rule”.
The Argos fought back last week and despite quarterback Chad Kelly’s suspension from games till Labour Day, he was still a spectator at rookie camp.
Cue the outrage across the nation and despite the defiance from Argos boss Pinball Clemons, Chad Kelly was absent on Day 1 of main training camp on Sunday.
The CFL head office won.
You can’t rage against the machine, fight City Hall, nor expect to come out on top against the League, no matter the sport or level.
But why does it seem like we’re a long ways from hearing the end of this story?
That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary
